Happened a couple of times in the last week or so, after PC being turned off overnight.

Appears to boot (CPU temperature displayed on LED), but no video.

Resolution; turn off PC, reboot, turn off PC during reboot, reboot.

Normal for several days. No pattern observed.

Re: 3 beeps and temporary hang on D6. 2020/12/29 11:30:23 (permalink)
I experience this issue from time to time as well... I have an EVGA X299 Dark + an EVGA 2080ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming Hydro Copper. Seems to only happen during what I would call a 'cold boot', situations where the PC has been powered off for an extended period of time such as overnight. I experience this issue in two forms... The PC will appear to have completely booted and will show the TEMP on the motherboard screen as it should, but I will have no display output. Other times the PC will fail to POST, typically landing on either a POST error indicating an issue with the GPU or PCH (there are other codes). Either way have not really ever been able to figure out why it does this... and I have no idea what is actually failing (if anything) as there is very little consistency with the post codes. I have posted on here before about the issue, but was not able to really get anywhere with the issue. It is an odd issue, as my PC passes every stability test that I can throw at it with no issues and I dont know that I have ever had a blue screen. Once the PC is booted and powered on for a short period of time the issue almost never comes back until another cold boot situation presents. However I can go weeks even months without this being a problem and than all of a sudden its an issue almost every morning, it actually happened to me this morning.

    What seems to help...
    1. Blow out the NVIDIA drivers using DDU and install current drivers.
    2. Power the PC down and drain the power from the system, unplug the PSU and hold the power button down for about 60 seconds.
    3. Make a backup of your BIOS settings.
    4. Using the clear CMOS button on the mother board clear the CMOS.
    5. Restore BIOS settings from step 3.

This seems to clear the issue up for me for an extended period of time. I suspect that this is either a firmware issue on the GPU or motherboard... but not 100% sure on that nor do I know how to determine if it is. The biggest thing that seems to help is clearing the CMOS which forces the motherboard to re-learn the memory and other components that are connected, why this helps I am not sure.

Maybe now that there is more than one of us having the same issue we can make some headway on this with EVGA's help... Can you post your full PC specs, everything including power supply?

    So...

    Your PC build..
    Motherboard - Z390 Dark
    CPU - Intel 9900K
    GPU - EVGA 2080 FTW3 Ultra
    RAM - GSKILL 4500MHz
    Power Supply - Corsair AX1200

    My PC build..
    Motherboard - X299 Dark
    CPU - Intel 9800X
GPU - EVGA 2080ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming Hydro Cooper
    RAM - Corsair 3200MHz
    Power Supply - EVGA SuperNova P2 1000

I think that its safe to say that its not the CPU, RAM, or PSU that is causing our issues unless we both have a bad component in that mix somewhere which at this point seems unlikely. I would assume that the firmware for the 2080 and the 2080ti are not the same and unless we both have a bad GPU I dont think that GPU hardware is the issue. This does not seem to be that common of an issue which makes me think that its not an Nvidia issue. The one thing that I could see being the same between both GPUs is the firmware that is used by EVGA for the ICX technology on the FTW3 cards. The alterative would be that both the BIOS for the X299 Dark and Z390 Dark have some kind of bug that is causing this issue.

Seems plausible. But how would anyone go about troubleshooting?

I have no idea... lol. This is why I never really reached to EVGA with a support ticket as its really just going to be a guessing game as to what the actual issue is. Plus I figured if it was a hardware issue that it would get worse with time and I would eventually figure out which component it was when it failed than do an RMA. However 2 years later and it still does it periodically and it has not gotten any worse, if anything its become less common of an issue than it was.

Can you provide a more detailed list of hardware that you have? (Brand, model, etc)

Says 1.08 is the latest for a Z390 Dark/FTW in the EVGA Download Center, but yeah, get the latest.

If we are both having the same issue its not the CMOS battery... I have tried changing it with no impact and voltages are showing as good for mine.

No, but would a 18 19 month old motherboard need a new battery?

Also, if it were the battery, would the issue not occur more frequently? As an example, this morning, after PC had been off for more than 12 hours, the issue did not occur.

My X299 Dark needed a new CMOS battery the day I took it out of the box, but this was/is a known issue with that Motherboard. I do agree that if it was the CMOS battery that it would happen more often, plus I have not lost any settings or had the BIOS reset when this issue occurs. Also for what its worth I powered up my PC this morning with no issues...

Honestly, it sounds like a cable issue. Maybe. Or monitor. D6 is "no console output device found" on my mb (z390 dark). That will happen if there is not any video cable plugged in, or if the cable isn't connected all the way. Are you guys using DP or HDMI, how long are your cables, have you tried different cables, have you tried different ports on the card, or different input on monitor/tv? Is your tv or monitor off (powered off, not standby mode) when you boot? I would work through these things. Especially after having pretty much ruled out the PC hardware or BIOS.
