https://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/joao-silva/amd-is-developing-an-alternative-to-nvidias-dlss/ Speaking during the RX 6000 unveiling event, AMD’s Scott Herkelman explained that Super Resolution will give “gamers an option for more performance when using ray tracing”. Outside of that though, further details weren’t shared but fortunately, The Verge were able to get some more details on this. Speaking with the site, an AMD representative confirmed that Super Resolution is in development as an open/cross-platform technology to bring a performance boost to games using ray-tracing. It is also said that this feature is expected to get “strong industry support” but unfortunately, it won’t be ready in time for the RX 6000 series launch on November 18th. It seems more likely that this feature will begin rolling out in 2021. It will interesting to see if AMD's software will be better than NVIDIA's DLSS.

I like the "open/cross-platform" part, we'll see how that works out. Nvidia was eventually forced to yield a little bit on G-sync when people weren't buying the G-sync monitors because they were too expensive vs. the Freesync alternative, so maybe they will make headway here too, we'll see.

AMD have a solution for Tenser Cores yet? Tensor Cores delivering up to 110 teraflops of dedicated AI horsepower, the DLSS network can be run in real-time simultaneously with an intensive 3D game.

Part of why I am waiting for the reviews of the 6900 is because of the “see endnotes RX-567” for all we know the 6900 benchmarks could have been with this technology being demonstrated.
The other thing people should realize is we haven’t seen this technology. DLSS wasn’t great first generation and left games looking like you smeared vasoline on the screen. Now DLSS 2.0 is great looking but who knows what this technology looks like for image quality. It’s something that will still be unknown until 2021 but rush and buy one on November 18th....
Just saying if you looked at the press release for the 2080Ti and DLSS benchmarks for Battlefield you would be excited. Probably far less excited when you enabled it before the first patch.

I doubt it could outperform the machine learning that nvidia uses. The whole gsync/freesync thing is different in the sense that they work very similarly. The way dlss works, amd has to come out with a solution that is completely different. Amd wouldnt be in this predicament if they were actually the innovators. They need to be the ones that release cool and innovative technologies instead of being late to market and copying nvidias stuff just to compete.

It would be nice if it works but performance gain and image quality loss are going to be very important to see. I am not sure how well it will work for AMD to try to do it on the next generation consoles as well as the PC since on the consoles the hardware is going to be locked in place for nearly a decade.

cross your fingers , all this does is make nvidia work harder & do better .... so consumers win again, the more AMD does.

Hope this works out well. Nvidia and Intel have gotten super complacent, look what happen to gsync and Intel cpu sells. Routing for the underdog this time I am!

For a company that's a quarter (?) the size of Nvidia, and competing against Nvidia and Intel, I'm surprised they are still alive, honestly. That they've managed to make the headway they have is quite impressive. Would be nice if they had a bunch more money to invest in R&D. The way things are going, who knows, maybe they will in the future?

Yeap hence you have to give AMD credit where it is definitely due. Go AMD Go😼

Competition is good. It forces the players to be on their tippy toes or lose market share.
