I recently got a X58 motherboard (old I know but I’m thinking of putting a 6 core Xeon in it and flipping it with a 1070ti) but upon trying to turn it on it doesn’t. At first I thought it was the power supply so I went out to get another one and it posted for one time but then showed there was nothing connected to any SATA port but there was an ssd, so after pressing f1 to continue the computer shut down and would not turn on again. The motherboard would show the FF code and continuously reboot so I’ve been looking on the forums and tried almost everything I could find. I disconnected everything from the pc and left only one stick of ram, the cpu, and the cooler. I got the same thing, FF with constant rebooting. So I decided to leave the computer on rebooting and after a few minutes I started to head a crackling sound from the MOTHERBOARD, which I thought was the chip frying but there’s no smell. Now any time I connect the power supply the red EVGA logo flashes along with a blue LED underneath the DIMM slots labeled 5VSB. Is the board fried or what? Any advice would be appreciated thank you.

The CPU is an i7 975. The PSU is an insignia 520 watt. Should be the NS-PCW5250. I don’t think it’s the power supply because when I first turned it on it worked and no bad smells are coming from it or anything. The motherboard is the EVGA Classified X58 by the way.

Yea ive tried two power supplies already, one older thermaltake 1200watt and the insignia one i mentioned before. When I do the paperclip method to jump start the power supplies both fans turn on as they should.

And I tried a working stick of DDR3 and I got the same codes so I’m thinking it’s not the ram but maybe the DIMM slots?

Okay so I left the CMOS battery out all night and when I came back to it the motherboard is back to normal. I am now getting a slew of “ f3 f6 f3 f6...”, b8, b9, and now C1 codes when trying to switch around memory modules
