Was installing some new case fans today and I noticed a spot on the back plate of my gpu. At first I thought that my deepcool castle AIO had somehow leaked onto my card as the spot is directly below it but I felt around the hoses and everything seemed dry and temps have been normal. The spot has a greasy feel to it. There is a thermal pad directly beneath the back plate where the spot is so now I'm thinking this may be where the spot came from. Everything is functioning fine so I assume I have nothing to worry about? Hopefully it is perfectly normal and I'm just being paranoid. Hope someone can fill me in.

That is thermal pad silicone coming out. It is ugly, but not harmful. The only time it could cause harm is if you let dust accumulate and it causes a short. Typically that isn’t an issue.

As said it's the thermal pad grease. It does not conduct electricity and is normal to see on cards. As for the dust mentioned above it would take a lot of build up of dust to cause a problem and would probably at that point be causing problems with other hardware. Its good to clean a dust out of a PC every couple months and pretty easy to do if you set a reminder on your phone.

Thanks everybody. I had uploaded some pictures in my original post but it looks like they didn't work. Here is a photo just for the heck of it.

Unfortunately, while I will disagree and say this is NOT normal, it is alas, very common. By 'not normal' I mean that thermal pads should not weep. The cause is using cheap substandard thermal pads and has been a nagging issue with EVGA for years. I personally think they'd gain enough in good will by spending a few extra pennies and we would not see a couple of these threads every month. They leave a bad impression of quality IMO.

How would I go about cleaning this off? Should I even bother?

I've used WD-40 and a soft cloth and Q-tip to get the oil off, then 91% IPA to clean off the WD-40 residue. The longer it remains the harder it is to remove. It's mostly a cosmetic issue.
