Who would agree with it....? I would think 10% would be more than acceptable for doing literally nothing....

so no one forces them to do business with Steam Steam believes their platform attracts new customers .... maybe they should have an origination profit plan. If the customer purchase on the developers site then Steam gets a smaller piece of the pie. When the customer purchase on the Steam site ... well we already know the answer to that. Steam is betting developers in large % will not Walk away or switch to their competitors

They would disagree with ANY cut. The problem that Steam has now, is that there is now competition that is offering significantly better terms. The thing is, I don't think that Steam has done anything about it. Having forums is not relevant anymore, I'd rather just use Reddit anyway. Their marketplace is useless for me... When I get down to it, I only use Steam because they gave me good deals on games. Now, there are competitors that are doing the same. Those competitors also now have games that aren't on Steam. It would be nice if Valve would do something to fight this, but they seem to be turning a blind eye to it.

As a consumer, what do we care? If Steam is marketable enough that developers choose to use it, and the retail price is proven not to be affected enough because we continue to buy the game, the developer chooses Steam for the reasons give, then that's between Steam and the developer. Now, what is the point of the survey?

Thing is, whats the competition to steam ? Origin ? no. Epic store ? its not even alpha status yet. Until there is an actual steam store competitor, people won't jump ship from steam. I have built up personally a friend list and community since i started using steam way back when your account was an email address and 5 digit steam IDs. Why would i just toss this out as a customer ? I am sure i am not the only one either.

well, we have gog and gmg as competitors ... I just wish steam had better support, Like phone support ....... or live text/chat ......... You'd think a company worth over 5 billion dollars could care a bit more for it's users ...

100% agree. Steam is the pinnacle of the PC gaming platform, and sorry nothing else even remotely compares. Sure I agree 30% is pretty high, HOWEVER, being Steam is indeed the Pinnacle and they know it, they can clearly drive far more sales then ANY other platform, in turn making everyone a lot more money, and keeping customers happy. Most wealthy and successful business men I've talked to in life understand the concept and preach the concept that "You have to spend a little money, to make a lot of money" and I believe that same principle applies here. If you're on top, never sell yourself short. Personally I, like others have said, would far rather purchase games on a flash drive or other type of physical media, and psychically own the copy, and not have to worry about having a connection, and relying on other companies just to play a damn video game. I'm also the kinda guy who prefers not being connected to everybody and everything and relying on everyone else for services, but I guess that's just the Socialistic world we live in

The competition are all the people who only care about playing games and the price of those games. If they are cheaper elsewhere, or are only available elsewhere, then I'll gladly head over there and buy the game. In reality, I'd rather not have any DRM at all, but all the thieves of the world ruined that one for us.
