Hello there, i have been using my CPUi7 8700k (oc 4.9Ghz) GPU EVGA XC RTX 2080 RAM 16Gb 3600Mhz CL19 for few months. I have been looking at the benchmarks on youtube of various game with same setup as mine or very closely similar, never stronger my rig. I have noticed that People getting more FPS in the games then my PC. 1 of the examples is AC Odyssey, at 1080p people getting around 90 FPS on average on the built in game benchmark. My pc only gets 65 on average. Thats quiet a lot of FPS difference. Im lost now if this has to do something with my PC? I'm using latest drivers.

Downscaling/oversampling resolution in the game settings causing the game to run at a higher than 1080p internal resolution?  Crazy AA settings?  You can bring a 2080 Ti below 30fps at 1080p in GTA5 with the right settings.

Have you run 3D Mark Timespy to see if you get typical scores for your system?  Around 10-11k or so?

Resolution scaling in game is at 100%, I'll have to download 3D mark today after work and I'll check the scores and post what scores do I get

What screen (res/hz) are you using and do you have Vsync enabled?

What temps are you getting and what case are you currently using?

Nvidia driver?  The users you are seeing on the tube could be using a better optimized driver.

Tons of settings in that game to fiddle with.....it could be half a dozen or so on your end

For instance,on my current setup in Odyssey benchmark - I can get an average score of ~ 73 fps , all settings maxed out  &  but that's at  2560x1440 res

so i would think you may be able to squeeze out a tad better average FPS than what you are saying at 1080p ... ,  but probably not a ton better.

Native is 1440p/144hz. But I have tried to copy same settings to mimic the benchmarks for comparison, hence why I mentioned 1080p. V sync disabled in games option and enabled in nvidia together with g sync. Temps during gaming: CPU 65c~ GPU MAX 70c. Never seen GPU temp going above 60c on ac odyssey. The case is CM h500. All completely air cooled 4 fans; intake, exhaust and 2 at top of the case. Drivers are latest.

You could try the same settings as them but did they OC their CPUs and GPUs higher (silicon lotto?) and what driver were they on during those tests?

What does PX1 say about your GPU during loads compared to others?

See there's too many variables involved to just simply copy their settings.

Definitely run some benchmarks to establish that the system is running well.  Normal Timespy seems the be the most authoritative and widely used DX12 benchmark, while also being a considerable stress test.  If you can pass it repeatedly with a score in the 10k to 12k range you're in good shape with the hardware and drivers.

I'm guessing to be sure my hardware is fine I'll have to run 3D spy and see if it checks out with what scores I get. If the scores will check out i will have to optimize drivers. The only thing I'm worried about, that is the hardware is working as it should.

I finished with tests i get 10440 score on time spy. I guess the hardware is fine then? No idea what could gimp the performance

For what it's worth, what type of drive is the game installed on?

If it's on a HDD, uninstall and reinstall on an SSD. Open-world games do a lot of reading constantly and with a hard disk, can cause stuttering and performance issues as it spins up/down. You WILL notice a difference immediately.

If it's already on an SSD, verify the integrity of game files and see if it finds anything corrupt.

I feel so silly. I went through the videos again, they had settings not maxed out. When adjusted to exact settings I'm getting similar FPS. Thank you everyone for helping newbie.
