I just picked up the video card 2 days ago (open box) from my local computer shop and played games like Metro Exodus, Rust, Overwatch and Call of Duty: Warzone. I've never seen the card hit a core boost clock of 1770Mhz (as advertised) in all of those games I listed. I ran Metro Exodus @ 1920x1080 with Ultra settings with Advanced Phsyx and Hairworks. Throughout the 1 hour of play time, the core clock was at a solid 1605Mhz. Is this normal behavior? Any help is appreciated. PS: I'm also running 442.59 WHQL since my PC doesn't like the latest ones for some reason. My PC: - CPU: i7 3770k @ 4.4 - MOBO: Asus Maximus V Extreme - PSU: Cooler Master V700 - RAM: 2x8GB 1600Mhz CL11

Sajin Not normal.
I see. I just downloaded EVGA Precision X1 and when I enable Boost Clock it locks the core clock speed at 1920Mhz? Isn't it suppose to be 1770Mhz?

Well that is good. Boost lock is suppose to lock your boost state to max at all times.

It will boost if needed and seeing you're only on 1080p, presumming 60hz screen, your GPU is plowing through everything thrown at it since things in general aren't too demanding.

So, I actually ended up returning the RTX 2070 Super Black to my local shop since I suspected a modded BIOS and ended up picking up a open box RTX 2070 Super XC Ultra 2 days ago and have been trying to make sure things are working properly. The XC Ultra's Core clock actually ramped up to 1950Mhz in Metro Exodus and fluctuated depending on when the power was needed. I'm on 1080p 144hz monitor. Last night, I had issues with maintaining 144fps in Overwatch when in full-team fights using a mix of medium and low settings. When I checked my GPU core clock speeds after the game, I noticed the core clock was fluctuating wildly. Is this normal? I had my power limit and temp limit maxed out in MSI Afterburner just to see how high the GPU Boost would allow the core clock to go up to. P.S. If anyone knows the version of the BIOS that comes with the RTX 2070 Super XC Ultra from EVGA by default, I'd appreciate it if you can let me know.

Glad to hear the newer card boosted to 1950 MHz without using boost lock. Define wildly. To find out which vbios is suppose to come with the card originally simply remove the backplate from the card and look at the vbios version sticker.

By wildly, I mean that the core clock can be anywhere between 1400Mhz and 1950Mhz, and can switch to any speed in-between those speeds (as often as 3 times) in a matter of 2-3 seconds. This only happened while playing Overwatch. Rust, Metro and COD: Warzone never seemed to behave this way. The lowest speed I noticed was the base clock speed of 1605Mhz in those games. I'll have to remove the card a little later to check, thanks for letting me know of that.

No problem. To prevent the card from falling below the base clock simply change the power management mode inside the nvidia control panel to prefer maximum performance.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that my Power Management Mode was already set to Prefer Maximum Performance mode at that time. My best guess was that it could it be throttling due to increased Power Limit and Temperature Limit through MSI Afterburner.

If it drops during idle, it's normal but even during gaming, it all depends as it's always fluid. I use a 2080 Ti Black and it fluctuates between 1800-1875 last I've seen and maybe sometimes higher. I'm in the lobby of a game and it's at 1125 while I'm tabbed out typing this. I don't think it's an issue unless your clocks are dropping and you're getting stuttering during gameplay.

I see. I'm trying to maintain 144fps+ and I'm having a hard time believing that a RTX 2070 Super has issues doing that on an 1920x1080 resolution with a mix of Medium/Low settings in Overwatch. I'll keep checking on it tonight and see how it goes EDIT: Here's a screenshot of what my GPU core clock speed looks like when playing Overwatch. https://ibb.co/GCjfS55 You can see that it's well under the base clock speed of 1605Mhz.

1410 is the base clock for a rtx 2070. Did you also restart the machine after setting the power management mode to prefer maximum performance?

Well, that's not good. I did not reset the computer after setting it to prefer maximum performance. Hmm, maybe that's why. I did notice changing the power management mode did not behave like it did with my GTX 970. Certainly seemed like it wasn't taking effect. EDIT: So I changed power management mode to prefer max performance and restarted my PC and that seems to be working like a charm. https://ibb.co/mBhcCm3

1080p 144hz? Max out all your settings and go from there. It's probably not clocking high cause it isn't needed and if you're looking to cap frames, make sure nothing's holding it back but do cap it at your screen's refresh rating (Hz).
