i upgraded from a evga 1070sc to a evga 1080ftw2 and im having issues. i get a instant system crash and reboot when loading PUBG(player unknowns battleground pc game) and sometimes you tube, etc. when it loads fine i can play with out issues but it can take 4 or 5 reboots before i can load the pubg menu. just want to find out what is wrong. i bought the 1080 used, but the original owner used it without issues. i have the newest drivers 425.31, i have both 6x2 power plugs connected to the card, im getting a new 6x2 pcie cord to try and connect to a different pcie port on the power supply incase its drawing to much power from the same rail. any suggestions?

Well, I think you probably know you've described the symptoms of what sounds like a PSU issue, or spontaneous reboot under load. One thing you can try is on the Nvidia Control Panel under Help, is an option called "Debug Mode". If you select that, the GPU will run at the reduced vanilla boost clocks until you reset it. If the GPU is more stable that would point toward an issue with GPU. Do you have another system you can test the GPU? Also, if the GPU is in good condition and you have the serial #, you should have some warranty time left, even buying used.

The serial number is on the card right? I will test the debug mode more carefully, I have played with it some in the past. The new pcie cable should help me confirm if it's a psu issue.

what are the GPU settings in the BIOS?
T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

Yes the serial number should be on black and white rectangular stick on the back of the GPU. I doubt very much that new cables, considering the quality of the PSU you have will make any difference. And also, many cables are proprietary to the PSU. In other words they are not all wired the same. So if you did not get replacement cables from EVGA for this specific power supply, I would not use them.

I don't have a different system to test on currently. As to the cable, I have read that on multi rail psus, you can over load the amps if your 1080 has both 8 pin pcie cables on the same rail. So I wanted to try separate ports to see if it made a difference. The psu is at least 5 years old( I bought it used) and I'm sure the capacitors are aging somewhat.

I know you said the previous owner used the card without issues, but it sounds like the card may be the actual problem.

5 years old and bought new.. hmm. Try a new psu. Also I would of did a DDU uninstall of the current nvidia drivers in safe mode first.. then install the latest nvidia drivers right away on the next boot. Also were you using evga's px1 prior with the other card? Uninstall that as well.. hunt for the 3 evga folders in the c drive and delete that.. reboot and install px1 again.. after installing the nvidia drivers on the next boot. DDU from here. https://www.wagnardsoft.c...pic.php?f=5&t=1630

I was thinking of the PSU too as being the problem. If you can, try the 1080 in another computer, if all is good then you could try another PSU in your computer. Another option would be to get both your 1080 and your PSU to a computer shop so they can be tested. I would call before to ask about the fees, some places might do it for free or just a few bucks. Not so with the big names!
