Microsoft was quick in admitting that their Windows 10 update (KB4482887) from March 1 had a detrimental effect on performance, especially as it related to specific gaming scenarios. Under a week later, we now have a public fix available as well. The latest update from today, March 12, is version KB4489899 (OS Build 17763.379) and claims to address "an issue that may degrade graphics and mouse performance with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2, after installing KB4482887", among other things.

As much as I do love and enjoy using Win10 I have to admit Microsoft can screw off with these mystery\secret "fixes\updates" that cause more harm than good. I already had to Google 3 different fixes cause my pc was wrecked due to Microsoft's incompetency. The first fix was cause a update had unknowingly changed it so my gamma\brightness settings were being overridden by a background app, second time was to do a regedit cause some games like Guild Wars 2 had problems loading up correctly and the third was to turn off Fast Startup since I found out it messes up the 20-Series GPUs. I'm just glad this degrading game performance issue is fixable through a update and not having to mess with Windows settings.

It's funny how the original update had nothing to do with gaming so the early reports were dismissed, yet it still caused problems. If Microsoft really wants to get people to install updates promptly they should probably reinvest in their software Q&A team instead of relying primarily on the Windows Insider users as guinea pigs.

And yet another reason I say "Stop forced updates"....beyond the "It's my hardware and bandwidth you're stealing to do this" .....it messes up peoples systems on a regular basis.
