Is it normal for my SSD in slot 1 to be idling around 42C and is at 66C under load? Also, the GPU temp is running hotter than usual. They were not running that high Sunday, IDT. Noticed it last night after installing Samsung Magician and the new NvME driver. I ran some benchmarks to see if this fixed my lower scores after switching MB's. My scores after installing the drivers went down around 2000 points on Passmark vs 6xx-10xxpts after the switch from the Asus. I uninstalled the drivers. The scores went back to pre-install numbers, but the high temperatures stayed the same. I honestly have not been looking at GPU temp at idle lately nor the Samsung temp in a while.

Here is a shot from last night after installing the firmware and a my temps after starting up today running nothing.

I'll check mine when I get home this evening and report back.  Those temps don't look abnormal to me as far as a standard CPU would go.  How's the airflow in your case?  and did you install the heat pads that were provided.   a simple test would be to get a temporary fan and direct it towards the M.2 and see how the temps change

The air flow is really good. Two Corsair's up top pushing out, three up front pulling in and one in the back pushing out. I can cool it down with a fan back to high 40's low 50's under load with a very large fan. The GPU temps were in the 40's and the M.2 temp was around 32c under idle last I checked before the weekend. Ummm......no? I have not installed the thermal pads provided.

The two thermal pads came with the Motherboard. One for each m.2 slot.

    I am seeing this....now...damn.

I was wondering if it needed some thermal cooling. I unpacked nothing but the MB just in case it didn't fit me.
    Ok, thanks for the help

Why I do not use the M.2 Slot Next to the CPU with an Air Cooled Graphics Cards.
The Thermal Pads should only be placed in the Yellow Area shown below.
How are the Temps in the lower M.2 Slot?

Also they run best warm and last longer over being cold.

I am not sure. I just applied the thermal pad and ran Passmark Disk and the temperature high was 61C instead of 66C but after idle it seems to be hovering around 45C. The bench score this time was within the margin of era of what the Asus ran. Upon start up, Windows ran scandsk to fix any eras after applying the pad and re-installing the drive. Any performance difference in using the bottom vs the top slot? If not, i agree with you. The bottom slot would catch the air coming off the Graphics card it seems. Right now, M.2 still reads 45c after the test and typing this.

edit: I installed the pad over to the left hand side of the drive covering the two modules vs in the middle. Is that ok?

No you only want the pad under the Controller part of the NVMe M.2 Drive
This is the area I marked in the Yellow Square above.
You want the Air Flow under the Memory Chips Not a Thermal Pad.

Moved the drive to M.2(2) under the GPU fans and applied the thermal pad in the correct spot.

Results: 32c at startup setting to 31c
Ran the same bench test Previous max of 61c dropped now to 43c max
After running the bench, and typing, idling now at 29c
Bench results are now the same as previous board

    Thank you guys.

    Dooohh!

I did the same on my first rig with the M.2.
Then I had to remove it to use on my X99 FTW-K MB because it did not come with any Thermal Pads for the M.2 Slots.
I even got an EK NVMe Heatsink Cooler and end up removing it as well.
It did look cool but the temp ran at 23°C and that is to Cold for this type of drive.

just wanted to shout back.  I know you solved your issue.    I booted straight into the bios and on start up, 22 and 20 C  on my two M.2 drives.   After about 10 minutes,   36 and 34C.  That's no load.  Just idle.

just the bios for me.  IMO,  E-Leet should have that added. But I don't think it matters.

A more updated image, it is the VRM Fan on the GPU.
The CPU fan is now a Fan that sits on top of the VRM on the MB

    Not sure of what Image?
All but the last image are Water Cooled Cards using the Hydro Copper Water Bock.

If this one they are the Fans Connected to the MB that are mounted on a 360 Radiator
The VRM Fan is the one on the X299 Dark Motherboard.
