I have been running my build on an ASUS 1060 for a couple months (long story) with no issue, and just recently got my EVGA 2080 XC Ultra. It worked well for a few days prior to 417.71. Since then I have had screen freezes where the entire PC locks up, sound stops, and I must force shut down.
Due to prior issues (alluded to above) I am going to be hyper vigilant about RMAing this. I just want to make sure all avenues have been tried. GeForce Experience shows I'm fully updated: Version 417.71 Release Date: 1/15/19.
When I look at DXDiag it does not show that same date, but 1/10/19. The numbers are the same however the decimal is in the wrong spot. It lists Version: 25.21.14.1771 and Date: 1/10/2019 16:00:00
I am not certain if this is relevant.
I have reinstalled the driver through GeForce Experience. I have manually downloaded the driver off NVIDIA site. Nothing has changed since my build worked for months on the ASUS 1060 except: installing the 2080, getting drivers, and removing the ASUS Aura software.
Aside from the freezes, I do not recognize any other issues and it runs very well.
I got this advice and I have performed this:
"Try this as well:
Download this
Download (get the 18.0.0.6 or NEWER)
Disconnect the NETWORK Cable | WIFI
Search(runbox) > Msconfig > Boot(tab) > Boot Option> check the SAFE BOOT ... Apply and Reboot.
Run DDU
- Select: NVIDIA Software and drivers
- Select: Clean, do not restart
Search(runbox) > Msconfig > Boot(tab) > Boot Option> Uncheck the SAFE BOOT ... Apply and Reboot.
Back in normal Windows:
Install the NVIDIA 416.94 driver
- Select: Custom
- Uncheck Everything except the GPU driver
- Check the CLEAN INSTALL BOX
- Finish the Install
Reboot"
I downloaded Precision X1 and sit in game at 65-67c.
However, since doing this my game has completely closed itself without warning twice in 30 minutes.
