Speaking with PCWorld earlier this month, Nvidia’s Senior VP of Content and Technology, Tony Tamasi, confirmed that in order to take advantage of ray-tracing, we need to wait for Microsoft to roll out its DirectX Raytracing API, which is currently set to launch in October. The final public build should be packaged in as part of the upcoming Windows 10 October feature update. (probably another reason Microsoft will push users/gamers to Windows 10)

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I won't hold my breath hoping for an easy and smooth rollout and adoption. Microsoft tends to over-promise, over-complicate, and put in place "gotcha" terms forcing people to accept something that they don't want in order to get something else that they do want.

    ASRock Z77 • Intel Core i7 3770K • EVGA GTX 1080 • Samsung 850 Pro • Seasonic PRIME 600W Titanium
    My EVGA Score: 1546 • Zero Associates Points • I don't shill

Indeed.  And that seems to be the business model for many companies these days...

Microsoft is done with the API, they just need to figure out how to inject their ransomeware into it... I read it on the internet.

Seems like the Raytracing is going to be a major part of this generation of cards. I really can't wait.

DXR is a render pipeline. Just like DX7, DX8, DX9, etc are their own render pipelines. DirectX isn't some generic everything-runs-on-DX12 graphic setup. Every single version of DirectX is it's own thing.
