I'd like to say first that this is purely for benchmark purposes. I use my laptop on my actual lap for gaming and keep the clock speed at 3.4GHz for low-mid 60s. Anything at 70+ is uncomfortable and cooks my legs. The 980M pegs out at 68-70 regardless.

I'm curious as to what others here have been able to push the 6820HK to in terms of clock speed and voltage needed to do so, and also what temps you're getting. The problem I've been seeing is that I have hit a wall at 4.0GHz at roughly 1.22~ volts @ high 80s on Cinebench. I've pushed the voltage up to 1.3v but can't get a steady overclock at 4.1GHz and don't feel safe pushing the voltage much higher. Am I just unlucky in the silicon lottery or are others seeing the same? And if I get the CPU/GPU repasted with something like Arctic Silver/Thermal Grizzly, could I see a significant drop in temps?

Edit: Forgot to add that the closest I got to 4.1 was at 1.31v and temps were hitting mid 90s and bouncing up to 100, but Cinebench crashed about halfway through.

4.0GHz for the 6820 is on average the limit.  4.1 is possible on a few cpus but requires lots of voltage, you can try 1.4V if you have LM and thermals allow.

So you're saying I'm pretty much at the limit already. I thought Skylake chipsets were able to get into the mid 4s for clock speed, or is the mobile variant gimped simply because of the lower TDP?

It is certainly possible to overclock to 4.1GHz or even 4.2GHz, but that is pushing it.  The mobile cpus are not limited by the lower TDP if this can be changed in the BIOS or bypassed some other way, but they are certainly not as well binned as the 6700K.

I´m actually running mine on -100mv offset on stock speed and thats more than enough power for games.
Actually i thought about bringing both my cpu and gpu (gtx1070) under 1v.
I still manage to get 2000mhz on the gpu with that voltage, so that´s quite nice.
Thermals are way better that way !!!!!!

So after a bit more playing with PXM and Cinebench, I managed to get this:

It was hitting around 1.32v and thermal throttling to bounce the clock down to 3.6 at the worst point, but still got it to break 900s. The 898 was at a steady 4.0 clock at ~1.24v
