The fourth Challenge of the 2018 Challenge series is a 5 day challenge to celebrate the 2018 International Football World Cup. The challenge is being offered on the Sierpinski/Riesel Base 5 (LLR) application.

Notes
  • If you have an Intel CPU with hyperthreading, either turn off the hyperthreading in the BIOS, or set BOINC to use 50% of the processors.
  • If you're using a GPU for other tasks, it may be beneficial to leave hyperthreading on in the BIOS and instead tell BOINC to use 50% of the CPU's. This will allow one of the hyperthreads to service the GPU.
  • Use LLR's multithreaded mode.
  • Only tasks issued AFTER 14th June 2018 00:00 UTC and received BEFORE 19th June 2018 00:00 UTC will be considered for credit.

    I am in.
    When using multithread setting it to use 50% will not make the system use 50%.
    I have found that all the threads will be used anyway. And to me that's ok.
    I leave HT on and use the threads. You can set it to run 2 tasks on a CPU that has a lot of threads.
    My dual socket with two 8/16-32threads is running 4 tasks with 8 threads each.
    It does not scale well enough to run one task with 32 threads.
     
    Remember LLR uses AVX and the newer instructions which makes the CPU run a little warmer that can be compounded by overclocking. So watch the temps. Good idea to blow out the HSF if they are dirty.
    Good luck everyone. If a prime is found, it will be a big one. Hope someone finds one this challenge.

    Of those tasks that have been sent out:

    2415 (7%) came back with some kind of an error. [2415 (7%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
    12938 (37%) have returned a successful result. [12913 (37%) / 0 (0%) / 25 (0%)]
    19546 (56%) are still in progress. [19545 (56%) / 0 (0%) / 1 (0%)]

    Of the tasks that have been returned successfully:

    7713 (60%) are pending validation. [7697 (59%) / 0 (0%) / 16 (0%)]

    Normally we process about 700 SR5 tasks per day, so the challenge is doing over 15 times the normal rate. Will we find a prime?

    Great challenge everyone! In a 5 day period, normally we would have done about 3500 SR5 tasks. We did over 20 times that.
