Hello all, first of all, sorry if this repeats a previous post but I could not locate one that actually answers my question. I have some Gigabyte VEGA 56 OC for mining, which has 2x 8 pins power slots; my PSU is a EVGA 1600 T2, which supplies VGA forked cables with a 6+2 + 6 pins; meaning it connects 14 out of the 16 power pins.
Though not ideal, I know that it is technically possible to have it connected anyway, as far as the 6 pins connector is correctly positioned in the 8 pins slot of the VEGA card.
How to do that? How to position the 6 pins connector into the 8 pins slot? And what are the consequences of missing those last 2 pins? (as far as I know, they are ground)
thanks! PS: it is very frustrating to find out that EVGA's top model 1600 T2 offers forked VGA cable 6+2 + 6 pins instead of 2x 6+2 pins.

If you have the extra connectors, adapters such as "Dual SATA to 6+2 pin PCIe" and "Dual Molex to 6+2 pin PCIe" and "8-pin EPS12V to 6+2 pin PCIe" are widely available..Search around. If you put a 6-pin PCIe connector in an 8-pin socket, you'll probably get this error..Yes, the 2-pin part of the 6+2 connector are grounds.

Your gonna need more than a single 1600w t2 to power 8 vega 56 gpu's.

Interesting, and thanks for your quick reply. You said "adapters" but my search with your terms resulted into full cables. Are you suggesting to replace the original EVGA cables by those above *OR* to connect adapters similar to above to my original EVGA cables?? Following your hints, I have just bought the below which I suppose is what you meant. It costs less than 2 bucks so I bought one anyway to test. On the 2nd picture is the brand-new adaptor plugged to my EVGA original cable, which in theory should work perfectly in the situation I described. BUT... a weird observation though: the 6 pin connectors are supposed to have 2 phases while the 8 pin connectors 3 phases... so how the 6pin here comes out with 3 red wires out of it? I expected to see a jumper on the 8pin side to feed the missing phase. Should I be concerned about this? .jpg)

Agree, but that is not really my question here. The question goes around the "incomplete" cable provided with the 1600T2 (incomplete for VEGAs) I have 2 of those PSUs to build a 12 VEGAs rig; if that does not go well as many say, then I split it into 2 rigs of 6.

An 8-pin from the PSU branching off into a 6+2-pin and a 6-pin with a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter..Hmmm.. Probably be okay but keep an eye (and a feel) on it for signs of overheating. You can use the cables that came with your unit and just buy the adapters that go on other cable ends too..There's Dual SATA to 6+2 pin, Dual SATA to 6 pin, Dual SATA to 8 pin..Dual Molex to 6+2 pin, Dual Molex to 6 pin, Dual Molex to 8 pin..Lots of various adapters around..Check modDIY or Amazon or FrozenCPU or other places. Or you can get individual custom cables from CableMod, or Contact EVGA and see if they have what you want..EVGA sells individual cables upon request too. See PCI Express Auxiliary Graphics Power Connectors for pinout and watt/amp ratings.

Man, I must be missing some concept to completely follow you... Why you are talking about SATAs and other adapters instead of the one I sent picture? What make them better? And according to the Tom'sHW link you provided, I could simply plug my 6pin into the 8pin socket and it would be still enabled for 300w while I apply 200w to each card. So is my adaptor even worse solution than simply positioning the 6pin inside the 8pin as suggested by TomsHW?

Buying custom cables from cablemod is the best choice.
