Hey everyone,
I was tired of waiting for the X299 issues to be sorted out and for the boards to be release so I went ahead and bought a x99 Classy and a 6950X CPU in the meantime.

My main problem is with throttling.  I cannot figure out how to stop my CPU from throttling when I stress test. ( or anything else that puts a heavy load on it) I have looked at lots of posts as well as the BIOS guides, but the problem is they are all outdated. I cannot find anything for the latest BIOS version, 2.04.

Currently I'm only going for a 4.2GHz overclock on a very well water cooled setup.  I have my TJMax manually set for 83 and I of course have Windows 10 set for High Performance, but even just running the AIDA64 stress test, Windows Task Manager shows the CPU speed throttling down.  My temps are in the 40s, so I don't understand why it's trying to throttle.  Am I missing something simple in the BIOS settings that could be causing it?  Does any one have an OC manual out for BIOS version 2.04?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's called "AVX Ratio Offset" on the first page in the BIOS, set it to 0 if you don't want stress tests that use the AVX instruction set to throttle the CPU.

Just be warned that it's there because AVX tests put a LOT of extra heat out, and if your CPU is overclocked too high it could be detrimental - that's why the offset is there and on by default.

Arestavo thanks so much for the tip!

That did the trick.  Stress tests is only yielding low 50s temps, so I should have a little more room for more speed.

Thanks so much for the fast response!

No problem! Just be wary - I've read reports of 6950Xs dying at very good temps with too high of a vcore voltage applied (1.4V and higher appears to be a "very bad thing" if you want this CPU to last).

Good to know. Thanks again.

I've gotten it up to 4.4GHz now at 1.320v and stress test temps have been 57-60.  I think I've found a good stopping point. (for now)  From what I've read, this CPU seems to be doing better than others.

Very nice! Mine takes 1.363V to be fully stable at 4.4Ghz and a 36 ring ratio.

Updated my mods rigs for my current build.   Baseline information in it. Next I need to do some cryo-cooling and really crank out some numbers to post.
