hi i've been using EVGA components for a while now and im currently in the market for a new GPU, im about to change my evga gtx 770 sc and go for a 1080. The problem is i was thinking of the EVGA 1080 ftw, but i heard that you guys had hardware problems with these card such as faulty onboard components. I do prefer to stay with you but i do not want to have hardware faults later so my question is. Have you solved this? and is stock currently on sale been fixed? I''' be honest and say i am looking at gigabyte and asus too, but i would prefer to stay with you.

Solve this by purchasing the 1080 ftw2 if you wish to stay with EVGA

yes i did think of that, but stock levels still haven't returned to normal since the mining situation. And the FTW2 is $150 more here.

I've been running my 1080 FTW (game daily) for a year now and no issue's. I did put the thermal pad mod on mine since it was offered free but did not flash the updated vBIOS since I always run a custom fan curve anyway. I've never seen temps over 64C under 100 % load. Fan speed at 75%.

I ran my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX card for a year, never updated the bios, never did the thermal pad mod. Always ran fantastic for me and highest temps I saw whilst gaming was around 73c, and that was not often. I did always use Afterburner with a fan curve when gaming. Only reason I upgraded to the 1080 Ti card I have now was to get every ounce of performance I could get for VR gaming.

All new EVGA cards come with the thermal pads installed since sometime last year (I think it was september, but don't quote me on that), if that is what you are worried about. I still would recommend the FTW2 because I love the sensors, but if you want to save some money the FTW is perfectly fine too.

Any card that shipped after November 1st 2016 should not have any issues for the GTX 1080 FTW cards. Moreover any 1080 FTW has a serial number that starts "171" (meaning it is a 2017 model) has certainly been modified with the newer fan curve and thermal pads and will not have any of the earlier issues.

Well based on all the above, I guess indeed there is something wrong with my FTW 1080 that was RMAed to me in Nov/2016 only 8 months ago. My first card started artifacting. EVGA replaced in with a brand new FTW 1080 (ACX) with thermal pads installed. It had been running fine up until a couple of weeks ago. I was getting the no more than 72C while gaming as mentioned above. I have a 750D case (good airflow) and curve is set to +10 percent to temp. So at 70C it runs at 80 %. I hardly ever oc the GPU, I'm a gamer and never OC in games. After only 8 months the card now hits 81C+ in gaming, and clocks down as low as 1911. Never used to clock below 1964. It's because it's now heating up. Nothing has changed - room temp (AC) at 23C, case/GPU are clean. It's the GPU. 81C in ROTTR is absurd. Check the video link. Talked to tech support. Nothing wrong with them (good guys). They said to RMA this one and I would get a "different" FTW 1080 ACX. Advanced RMA would cost me re EVGA CC charging up front and exchange. Without advanced, no GPU/gaming for weeks. Don't want to spend another dime on RMA stuff. And would the second RMA card act any differently after 6 months or so or would temps rise by 10C like this one? Honestly, don't know what to do, but big time disappointed, with temp increases like that after only 8 months of nothing but spoiling this GPU. https://youtu.be/PSghsIGPRLQ
