Hello guys I bought a gtx 1080 ftw edition from eu.evga.com 1,5 months ago (came with thermal pads and bios update) and I think my temps are a bit high. Running heaven benchmark 4.0 while the card is on stock settings results into about 82 degrees and 85% fan speed. Is this normal? I have an h440 v2.0 case with the 4 stocks fans which I think is to blame for the bad temps. Here is a picture of my case. Also the E letter is a lot brighter than the others and there is weird fan noise when the speed is at 55-60%. Any thoughts on that? :(

If i remembered the case is more for a silent build. So, the ventilation isn't the greatest but its not terrible either. Are you running the fans at the stock orientation? if so i would suggest swapping the fans for a better air flow. I believe the the case comes with three fans in front for a push and a one rear for pull. So the air pressure is probably not the most ideal for your setup.

Yes the fans are on stock orientation, the 3 fans are for intake and the 1 in the back is for exhaust, my cpu cooler (evo 212x) pushes air towards the exhaust. I live in Greece where the climate is a bit hot but I think the temps are a bit high for May.

HotCookies did you play sc2? :p your temps is a little bit higher you can clean your build from dust for better airflow + you need to know what summer in Greece is very hard for hardware :D

Yes I did play starcraft2 as Terran, the gpu is about 1 month old and I dedust the air filters often. Yeah I am sure there will be a problem in summer :(

Here in Patras its about 25oC. i had the 1080ftw with 65-70% fan profile at temps of 50-60 at the division at 2K monitor .. but in cold winter :D i dont remember how it was last summer.. weird fan noise maybe is the coil whine that happens in your card. is the noise like this or worst? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK7XABg8jeQ i can see from your photo that the first led has higher bright :P. you need maybe to talk to evga for RMA maybe

Yeah it's about 26 degrees here, I don't want to know what will happen on summer hehe. I am pretty sure the fan noise comes from a bad fan bearing because it's only audible at around 55-60%. Yeah the E letter is a lot brighter, I am kinda scared about the whole ram process :(

Thanks for the help, if the temps keep rising I might just RMA the card and hope for the best.

82C at 85% fan seems to be well within the design limits of this card. There's no justification to RMA it on these grounds.
If you really think it could run cooler, try 90 or 100% fan, or alter the ventilation scheme of your case so it's not trying to cool your gpu with hot air. The Heaven benchmark really loads down the gpu, so it generates lots of heat, quite possibly more even than you'd see in most games. I know my own water-cooled gpu will hit 44 or so in most of the 3DMark benchmarks, but 47/48 C in the Heaven benchmark. Have you tried running Heaven with the side of the case off? This would provide you a comparison where the gpu is getting cooler air closer to ambient temperature, so you can see just how much of an effect you're seeing from the ventilation in your case not being the best.

+1. I'm willing to bet you don't have enough internal airflow

This is with the side panel off, tops at about 77-78 with 82% fan speed. Anyone has the same card to compare results? Also remember it's with no oc.

I have exactly the same case and cpu cooler as you,but with the 1070 ftw max temps on GTA 5 is around 55c ,witcher 3 it hits around 60c no OC running a +10 on the fan curve.heaven 4 max temps is around 55c.

After changing the stock thermal paste to mx-4, unigine heaven runs 71 Degrees at 62% fan speed from 82 Degrees and 85% fan speed.

My 1080 GTX F|E has not broken 65C yet to date@ 100% Utilization 120% Power Target. FTW are suppose to have better cooling with the axial cooler fans, what kind of core clock are you running on that that card? 71 is even kinda hot for a FTW. Now my card runs normally around 60-61C on games like Mafia 3 and Forza Horizons in full Ultra settings, but then look at my case set up and cooling-

Are you sure nothing else changed? 10ºC difference is no joke. Seems too much for just the paste.

It was more than 10c if you compare the fan speed, it actually clocks better also, I am kinda amazed as well. Also when I removed the cooler I noticed that the gpu wasn't very well covered with the paste or it might just be my idea.

I have the stock options on precision, boosts at around 1950 I think, my case h440 doesn't have good airflow and I live in a country with warm climate.

Maybe that card didn't receive enough thermal paste when manufactured for whatever reason. You definitely saved some time by fixing it yourself instead of having to RMA it.
