sHans3n Anyone aware of the X299 stuff on the horizon? Think EVGA will be making some new stuff?
I'm wondering it X299 will turn out to be a better success (at least user review wise) than X99, which has garnered more than its share of bad press from users.

Pricing is going to be a huge factor if Intel wants to compete with Ryzen. Intel is way ahead in having more PCIe lines and I might upgrade to X299 if the pricing is less than the current amount.

heh i saw the x299 info just before i placed an order for a bunch of watercooling kit, it has now been cancelled and likely going to throw the cash at the new platform if it looks to oc well, im hoping for close to 5ghz on 8 cores so its a nice big upgrade form my 4790k at 4.8.

With DDR5 memory and PCI-E 4.0 coming at some point, Skylake-X might miss the mark since I'd really like to have those features for the sake of being on a platform that will last me a few years.

Back in 2014 it was the lack of additional PCIe lanes that made me decide to buy/build an X79 rig over an X99. Other than ddr4 ram the X99 didn't offer enough to make up for what I could get lightly used X79 gen i7's or now 8+ core Xeons. I can't wait to see how X299 will improve as far as PCIe and other specs.

I'm thinking that even if X299 hits this summer, I'm not going to jump on it right away. After all the folderol with X99, I think it best to wait till some of the bugs are weeded out (to mix metaphors).

Yes, but in retaliation of Intel's retaliation, AMD are going to be releasing their HEDT chips, aptly named the X399, a whole hundred better than Intel! If Ryzen is anything to go by then these will be pretty sweet.

That would be nice to see better competition but AMD's next chipset is rumored for Q3 and not Q2.

X299 and skylake x are what I have been waiting for before I decide to build my next computer. With Ryzen it is hard for me to justify buying anything like the 7700k. I plan on gaming and doing some video editing with this system so extra cores should help. Hoping intel impresses, and that the prices will be a little lower now thanks to ryzen.

I made the choice to go with the Z170 6700K rather than the X99 Haswell-E in Jan. 2016 because Intel was dragging their feet on the Broadwell-E chips. I'm glad I did because the Z170 did have better NVMe support and faster RAM was not as much of an issue as the X99. The only thing that I've really missed is the 6-8 core (10's are to much $) chips for productivity. I think I will buy into the X299 early so that I feel as though I will have at least a couple of years before any significant changes to the chipset happen.

At that time Intel had absolutely zero reason to rush any type of chipset/CPU release. It's only because of AMD RYZEN that INTEL has decided to speed up development.

They quite possibly might b rushing to their doom on the kabylake-x side of the platform considering their architectural enhancements over skylake resulted in heat issues: https://forums.evga.com/m..aspx?m=2663583&fp=1And a fix does not come to fruition with a rushed release pushing the TDP up to 112W.... It sounded beastly at first but now it seems like another intel heat trap for consumers to b the victims of. Only to be told not to overclock a design that consumers reasonably would expect to b able to do so. But hopefully i will be wrong since i am considering kabylake-x or coffeelake-x if intel pulls a solid release which is becoming more rare with every launch they make.
