Okay so i have got new GTX 1080 FTW Hybrid.

Its a great card, runs cool - 43'c at load and that clocked at 2126/11000. All good.
Note I did mount a 2nd fan on the radiator so I have push/pull - as the eVGA one is a bit weak.

1st problem is the noise from the blower fan. It idles at 56% and for some god awful reason it just makes a horrible noise at that speed. Its like a humming or throbbing noise.
If I raise it to say 60% + it gets rid of the humming, but then you start to hear the fan blowing more.

Ive seen a few threads of people complaining about this fan and its fixed speed in the bios of not being allowed below 56%.
Any way to get round this ? flash another bios maybe ?

My 2nd issue is that I had to disable Fast Boot in my bios, otherwise I never had my monitor receive a signal from the card.
Little bit annoying as Fast boot worked fine with my previous card, eVGA GTX 980ti.

Is there any updated bios for these cards that fixes this issue ? currently running 86.04.3B.01.80

Have you checked to see if your motherboard has new a new BIOS release?

With SSD drives I see no real use for fast/quick boot but if you want to use it look to see if you can just change the Video Optimization part.

Was just reading this the other day.
    https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/

A failed quick boot or doing a restart will bypass quick boot and do a FULL shutdown and start

I put a wooden stick under my one of my air cooled double fan  FTW to stop a every now and them noise.
and it was easier to paint the stick black and not have to use LED's  on the stick.

i think he is talking about motherboard quick boot where it just doesn't start certain things and doesn't do a deep as a post check before booting. I don't think he was talking about win 10's built in fast start up?

Yeah i was just talking about my motherboards fast boot. It was nice as it bypassed the bios post screens and saved several seconds off that phase of the boot.
Its no massive deal, i have fast SSD's so bootup after motherboard has posted is quick of course.

Regarding the fan noise, I noticed that even during stress testing the card, the blower fan never goes above 56% (card hits max 43'c, but usually hovers around 39-40'c at 2126/11000 :) )
So what I have done is just made a shortcut with nVidia inspector for my desired clocks and fixed fan speed at 60% where the humming noise stops, and dropped this in my startup folder so it applies on after booting.

I see now what you are saying : I still don't understand the interaction ( if any) between the BIOS and OS settings for this.
For this build I make sure both are the same - no energy saving options - so sleeping - no bear mode.
( I do have MB status light OFF ) this is to tell fast if CMOS get reset to default behind my back)
    ----------------------------
ON all my EVGA dual BIOS card I do keep them in switch 2 aggressive  cooling position with the latest card BIOS

Afterburner for FTW  1080 card and EVGA OC(new one)  for the FTW2 1080 cards

Using fan curves you can stair steps and set hysteresis and you may avoid a resonance spot.

I have 100 percent fan speed now set at 75 deg F for all my cards but even folding they never get that hot.

I only water cool my CPU - not tried water for Video cards - in case that makes a difference  in your testing.

Just thought i'd update this thread in case anyone has a similar issue.

Found out that I can have MSI's Fastboot enabled with this card.
I re-enabled it and all is good.

This must mean that the process of resetting my bios/clearing cmos (which I had to do initially to go back to defaults as a way is disabling fastboot - I had no screen remember when installing this card) must have been the thing that actually fixed the no signal to monitor issue.

    Hope it helps someone
