Hello fellow EVGA users. I got my gtx 1080 ftw in august last year and since then i didn't have any problems with it until last week when my card blow up. So after this "event" i found out about all thermal issues and that i'm not alone. My replacement card have the thermal pads installed and bios upgraded (the EVGA site says so). My question is are you keeping your fans working all of the time , because in idle or low load mine doesn't spin until maybe 50-60c , which i was being told was by design. I have PrecisionX OC and CPUID HWMonitor to monitor my temps. In PrecisionX there is option - Auto Fan Control and when it's on fans work all of the time. Now given the thermal problems is it better to keep it on all the time even when not gaming ? Idle temps are around 35-38 c. With Auto Fan Control on fans run at 40% all the time even on idle. What do you thing is the best way to set up the fans ?

However you want. There is no thermal/heat problem. It's been tested by third parties that it only becomes an issue when doing unrealistic testing. Heat did not make your card go, just a faulty component.

Me personally, my fans don't turn on till 45C and are at 100% when they reach 60C. I have not done the optional thermal pad install or bios update because they are not needed.

As mentioned above, dont stress it, i could almost bet one of my cards that it wont happen to you ever again,at all.

I have a custom curve but still dont turn fans on up until 45c.  The reason for this is because in SLI, my top card really heats up a lot quicker and temps get a bit higher than id like.

I know you're probably traumatized but dont be, you'll be just fine.  If anything i ran a custom curve because the fans were crazy loud at the higher end of the temps. I start now at 45c and max rpm on fans is 70% which gives me 2500rpms.

The failure of a solid-state device on the PCB is a different issue and not related to "the thermal pads installed and bios upgraded"

I like to run my fans at 30% all the time and curve the speed to Temp in C +10 = fan speed %  So at 50C the fan would be 60%

It is a balance between max performance and the sound level you do not notice

Getting the heat out of your PC case is very important as most of the GPU heat is dumped into the case.  So airflow and case fans are a big part of keeping the GPU nice and cool = fast

Enjoy your 1080

Thx for the help guys . I will do a custom fan curve like suggested for gaming and for idle i don't see the need cuz 35c seems fine. As for the stress, my last card didn't go above 65c ever , because i use 1080p monitor and i limit frames in most games to 70 since its a 60hz monitor. I'm planning to get 2k 144hz monitor but at the time there were so many problems with Acer and Asus models so i decided to wait.
