excerpt: The chip isn't noticeable faster than the Core i7-6700K in any of our tests, which are focused on actual game performance - not complex CPU calculations.

The idea behind this review is to show percentage gains from increased clock speeds of the Core i7-7700K and its predecessor, the i7-6700K, on the GeForce GTX 1080 and the Radeon RX 480. The Core i7-7700K "Kaby Lake" is a very fast processor on its own. I'm sure it will be able to drive some of the most powerful 4K Ultra HD gaming rigs in the months to come. Compared to its immediate predecessor, however, it's safe to conclude that it is a disappointment. The chip isn't noticeable faster than the Core i7-6700K in any of our tests, which are focused on actual game performance - not complex CPU calculations.

Looks One Sided and to AMD's side or maybe I am reading the charts wrong.

Pathetic...I hope Ryzen gets Intel back on track.

I'm sure Intel has a few tricks up their sleeve if needed.

On one hand, too soon; thus far AMD's comparisons have been against Broadwell-E, not Intel's "-lake" series of quad-cores. If a quad-core Ryzen is planned, it will debut later. Right now their focus is on an 8-core at a quad-core price. Therefore, higher frequency Kaby Lake wins against the lower frequency 8-core Zen because it can beat Broadwell-E in gaming; we don't need a review to prove it.

On the other hand, the IPC parity from Zen to Intel's "-lakes" probably isn't much, less than 25%. There is the rumor Intel is working on something new that won't appear for 2-3 years. It takes 3-4 years to make a new architecture and it isn't a coincidence that AMD officially revealed Zen back in May 2015: You got your wish, you just have to wait until the 2019-2020 timeframe for the effect of Ryzen to bear fruit.

But don't expect anything short-term from Intel other than raising frequency and core count, and lowering price; that's all the cards they have.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].
