i'm currently rocking a 1080 FTW would i find any benefit from getting a 1050/1050ti/1060 to use as a dedicated PhsyX card?

    my previous card was a R9 290, at the moment the Phsyx i have offloaded to my CPU(5960x) with has great benefit to my bench scores better than running Phsyx from the 1080.

    but i would rather have another option for Phsyx, the R9 is still attached to my mobo but i gain greatly in the ashes bench with it in their

    Ahh. Yeah, that won't work for the R9 290. Just remember that the PhysX card will only work with games that either A) use cuda or B) use actual PhysX. Other than those 2 options, your card will basically sit in your computer just eating up power from your PSU. If you're really wanting to do this, I would try and get a 1050, or a 960 at reduced price.

    will do, pwr isn't a problem it's just being able to get benefit from spending £100 on a dedicated card for Phsyx, i'm having to ask myself if its going to be really worth the time, effort and cost to do so

    Also remember that getting a Physx card has more of a benefit for folks running SLI over those with just a single main GPU.

    There is a benefit for using a dedicated Physx card with one GPU, it just isn't all that big when you consider the lack of titles that can use it - https://en.m.wikipedia.or...elerated_PhysX_support

    i don't think i am going to benefit then, judging by that list i'm just going to have to save some more pennies for another 1080 for Sli  :(  time to clear out my piles of old GFX cards in the cupboard :(

    i suppose my next question would be, can a 1080 and a 1070 be used for SLi? or is that going to be more hassle than it's worth due the diff clocks and memory type?

    No, they have to be the same GPU. 1080 with a 1080, or a 1070 with a 1070.

    No, they have to be the same GPU. 1080 with a 1080, or a 1070 with a 1070.

    Unless something has changed that's not true. Only for SLI they need to be the same. Dedicated cards are a mixed bag. You could theoretically lose performance if your decided phsyx card is too weak and better to run off your primary or SLI'd cards. If you have a 1080, the maximum card you want for phsyx would be a 1070 and if any higher you'd have better gains just doing 2x 1080 SLI

    He asked about SLIing a 1080 with a 1070. I guarantee you that won't work.

    thank you all for your replies it has been really helpful,

    i don't think i'll be getting dedicated card for PhsyX as my CPU handles PhysX Benching scores better than my 1080

    Just out of curiosity, what benchmark software are you running that uses "PhysX"?  Not to be confused with "physics".

    If you really want to see the difference a dedicated PhysX card makes, try out the PLA benchmark  >>  http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/put-your-system-through-its-paces-download-the-pla-directx-11-and-physx-benchmark

    Make sure to set PhysX to max in the bench settings if you try it out.  Direct link to benchmark  >>  http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/benchmarks/PLA_Benchmark.zip

    Your suppose to run the PhysX setting in the NVidia control center on auto cause alot of games use Havok PhysX instead, which uses your cpu. So its best to let the system decide depending on what your running.

    @wmmills
    not much time for games atm don't seem to have the attention span these days so it's really just benching i'm doing atm,

    @bdary
    any idea where it hides the screenshots?

    usually it's just 3dmark i use and just use the control panel to switch between what does the PhysX, the i get the PhsyX scores and compare them,
    but i really do like PLA benchmark really nice, lots going on,
    what i observed if i select auto in PhsyX then i get no flags, the CPU still out performs the PhsyX on the card, it's maybe just the way it is?

    my 3dmark(forced 64bit) scores

    Phsyx set in control panel to 1080: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10908645

    This has been argued already. While I will give you the +1, I have been shown that adding a PhysX card does help. If for some it only brings a smidge improvement, what does matter is it cuts the load off the processor and the video card rendering to keep the FPS to your liking. That one part there is what most people fail to realize.
