I just swapped out my GTX 960 SC 4GB with the new GTX 1060 SC, and I noticed something very interesting.

While running Firestrike on my older card, the VRAM consumption would max out at around 1400MB. But on the new card, it maxes out at around 1100MB.

Any idea why this is the case? Is it due to the much greater bandwidth, which leads to reduced VRAM consumption?

    You should read this: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/44197-memory-bus-size-and-how-it-effects-your-vram-usage/

960 has a 128 bus; 1060 has a 192 bus. For a Short answer to your question, yes. I didn't feel exactly wanting to write it, so the 2 websites should give you some good thoughts and feedback.

Does anyone here have both a 900 series card and a 10 series card?

Could you run a consistent benchmark like Firestrike, Timespy, Heaven and see if there is any noticeable difference in the VRAM consumed of the two cards?

    Thanks!
