Probably master for "normal" use, slave is for higher overclocks and allows more power to be drawn and i think fans run 24/7 on it.

Slave, it starts the GPU with the fans running, so keeps the card cooler and avoids the rapid increase in fan speed when you start gaming. In my mind uses a more better fan curve.
Master seems to favour noise(lack of) by running the card hotter before spinning up the fans. In my mind not great for the GPU.
So if you don't mind the fan noise at idle then use Slave.

In either case you can install Precision X and customise the curves for all 3 fans.

If you're an overclocker the Slave bios give you more headroom.

For me, the slave setting runs the fan at idle and in my pc case I can't hear it. For me it's quiet 😁
If the fan noise at idle bothers you then you can create your own custom fan curve in Precision and use the Master bios to start the card without the fans running.

Being a FTW3 owner I can tell you putting it into slave mode will do nothing for you. It will not draw any more power than the master setting due to false advertisement by EVGA and the card simply not being able to go to 127% due to NVIDIA's rules. Now, if you want to use the "unofficial fix" you can flash your slave to run up to 127%. There is a massive thread about the power issue with this exact card, it is well worth the read if you have time.

And you can set a custom fan curve in precision for the both settings so you definitely want to do that either way for lower temps.

It's not an issue, and nothing to worry about. Just means the advertised limit of 127% won't be reached on stock bios. If this is important to you and you are most likely overclocking to get the most out of the hardware, then yes update the bios. If you're just your average gamer then sit back and enjoy the cards great performance. Whether you use Master or Slave bios 😎

Very true, it seemed more of an issue for us that were pushing our cards a little hard :). You will be happy with the card,

I'm not running the BIOS tweak & can still get 2100 MHz on the GPUs of my cards.  My 1080 FTW3s are the hybrid

    Hi,
Slave bios was pretty bad before using this which is pretty easy to do
Same clocks I used on master bios didn't work on slave until I did
    https://forums.evga.com/1080-TI-FTW3-watercooled-Slave-BIOS-doesnt-go-over-117-Issue-has-been-fixed-see-op-m2693145.aspx?tree=true

Otherwise master bios is good enough for gaming I mostly use default clocks without the need or use of any oc utility.

    My first build,
Case 450D/ ASUS Sabertooth X99/ 5930k with EK mono block / Water loop EK 280p-GTX240 radiators with D5 pump res combo before rads and D5 top after / Trident-Z 3200C14 4x8gb/ EVGA 1000 P2/ EVGA 1080ti FTW3 with EK copper water block.

    2nd build,
    Case D450/ ASUS x299 Prime Deluxe/ i9-7900x delidded with EK mono block/ Trident-Z 3600C16 4x8gb/ Water loop EK-280p-GTX240 radiators with D5 pump-res combo before rads and D5 top after/ EVGA 1200 P2 / Titan Xp with EK water block.

Thinking of trying the hybrid slave bios

Those GPU love to be kept cool .... less than 50 C seems to really help them run

There is also the silicon lottery effect .... you just do not know till you try

My 1080 Ti FTW3 are running 24/7 in my AIO Folding rig in my signature, room is 74 F

    Hi,
Yeah that's sort of the problem
Bios or nv driver doesn't know the difference in mine being 40c rather than air 60c lol
Once the ceiling is found it's time to try something else

OK, but Nvidia Boost 3.0 does care about 50 C & then becomes an obstacle to best OC

Each card has its own limits for sure, "silicon lottery effect"

I'm running the more aggressive Slave BIOS on my cards

    Hi,
Which version is the 1080ti ftw3 hybrid your link in your sig goes somewhere else
I've been using slave bios for a little while now every since using the king|pin fix
It's okay just not exceptional as is.
