Hello, I bought a EVGA SuperNOVA G2 power supply 6 months ago to replace my horrible noisy coil whining old PSU. Since day 1 the fan of the SuperNOVA G2 makes a horrible sound. First I thought it wasn't a big deal but it's starting to get very annoying because the rest of my PC is very silent. I understand that a fan is always going to make some sound but this sound is not consistent, it's like every round the fan makes it catches on to something for a part of it. I was expecting better from EVGA and I wonder if this is normal for this product. I could replace the fan but I don't want to lose my 10 year warranty. Heres a video I made with my Nikon DSLR (don't mind the mic noise, never buy Nikon) www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmkiFFR7NJE

Welcome to the form, Contact EVGA tech support directly - you can not expect them to find your post, if you do not reach out to them. They may suggest RMA. If it has happened since new --- has it stayed the same? The sound of a fan hitting something is not normal. I would remove all power and with a toothpick turn the fan to see if is striking something. Also with a flashlight look carefully for signs of damage to the fan blade or other item. Any plastic shavings building up? Confirm proper mounting of the PSU --- harmonics can be an issue in some PC cases.

I couldnt see any damage to the fanblades. It could be the fan ball bearing that is just bad. When I had just unboxed the brands new unit I noticed the sound and I made a video of it with my phone: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUCQvir8p88 ECO mode off means 100% fan speed? Im not sure. When I put it in my pc and it regulates fanspeed itself it can sometimes be even more annoying at specific rpms.

I put headphones on and listened again. It still sounds normal to me. But if you aren't happy, there is no reason to argue with us about it. Just replace it via RMA. I don't understand why you ask.

I have a similar noise in my G2 750. I bought mine like 10 months ago. I'm not sure if it was there before since it's only audible when I hold my ear close to the psu but still there's somekinda hissing sound coming from the fan. Not like any other fan in my rig right now. What will you do?

Does it sound like a mechanical hard drive that is being defragged - whirling sound?

Hard to tell. Not incosistent/intermittent like a defragging hard drive but has a similar pitch I guess. It actually sounds like in this video (listen closely after 00:26) www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUCQvir8p88
