What has been expected now is official. Microsoft has pulled the plug on older Internet Explorer browsers, including versions 8, 9 and 10, forcing users to update to the new Microsoft Edge. Besides that, the company has decided to retire Windows 8 support. With this move, we can say Windows 8 is officially dead.  Link

Well, so long as they don't drop 8.1 I don't mind.

Yup as long as they don't pull 8.1 support its fine. The upgrade from 8 to 8.1 was free not sure if it is still that way now.

Not necessarily forcing users to MS Edge... there's still IE11. Hopefully it's forcing users to FireFox instead though. ;)

As far as Windows 8.0 being dead.. yeah, I think it was dead from day one. :)

its not as clean cut as that.

Vista still has IE9 support until Vista reachs EoL, so IE9 on vista will still get security updates.

8.1 is considered a Service pack to 8.0 which is why 8 is now retired its been 2 years since the service pack release so no suprise.

Now same with IE, IE11 was released for Windows 7 back in 2013 as well so its no great shock that IE9 and IE10 have been devalued and placed into non support honestly IE9 held on longer than the support lifecycle says it should, as a previous version of IE is only supported for 2 years after the next version comes out for your operating system. No idea why it's news.

One of the Windows 10 updates REMOVED my shortcuts to IE 11 and Removed it from the Start Menu.
I Had to create a NEW Shortcut and add it back to the Start Menu, Desktop, and even the Task Bar.
MS Edge is for me the very edge of any Browser that I would ever use.
