After finishing the build, I was getting Post error 89, "Setup ACPI tables," which many people have seen. The PC would not boot; I could not access BIOS unless I reset CMOS. When I finally got to BIOS, it appeared that my memory was being incorrectly identified by BIOS.
 
I thought things would be cool when I set the frequency to 1600 and tCl, tRCD, tRP and tRAS to 9/9/9/24. Nope. The computer would only recognize 4Gb of my 12Gb after I changed those settings.
 
By reloading the default values, memory frequency is back to 1067 and the computer recognizes all 12Gb again.
 
This is how I have the Memory Feature in BIOS configured right now; BIOS and Windows recognize all 12Gb of RAM, but it's running with all the wrong timings, isn't it?

Again, when I changed the frequency, tCl, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS, the computer would only recognize 4Gb of my 12Gb. I haven't changed anything else in BIOS, other than the time.
 
Can anyone help me with these settings?

    Try to set Vtt to +150, and play with memory low gap. you may have to Try +200 as well. ( I try to avoid anything that takes Vtt total above 1.4; make sure command rate is 2T and give 1.52 a try insted of 1.50. every chip is diferent, the strength of the IMC (intagrated memory controller ) will be difrent; there is a lot of trial and error in the OC process.

    Here is what you need to know, You are trying to overclock, because Intel consideres anything over 1067 an overclock ( 8x133.3) since your memory is DDR double data rate it will report at 1/2 your speed IE: 533 is 1066 and 800 is 1600. with vengence since it is all considered low voltage memory all speeds are asking for 1.5. everything in your system is a relationship to your host frequency clock ( stock is 133.3) ; when 2:8 is set to your memory multaplier your memory speed is 8 times your host freq, when 2:10 is set, it's 10 times, and when 2:12 is set , it's 12 times. Uncore must be set to at least 2x your memory multaplier ( 1.5 times for a 980/990 )so with 2:8 use 16X with 2:10 use 20X and with 2:12, use 24X. your Vtt setting will need to scale with your memory speed, and how much you need will be deturmined by the quility of yoru IMC intagrated memory controler. your timings will also scale with your sdeed, the proper timings should be listed above. I usualy try a +100 when I OC 6G or a +200 when I push 12G. but you will have to adjust. too little and you loose memory and get BSOD 124's, too much and you loose memory and get X000003 and other BSOD's. there is also a section in bios called low gap that can help, with lost memory, and some of the latter bios's have a setting called  MHC strap and Dim ratios SEE http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=479626&mpage=1#479626

    I'm running Prime95 now; if I had bent pins, it would have crashed pretty quickly, right? It's been going for over an hour.
     
    I've not been able to identify the existing BIOS version. If it appears during boot up, it scrolls by too fast for me to spot it. The settings you link to require that I know what version I have.

    If you have never changed BIOS and the BIOS that came with your board is the one your using, it is likley on a sticker on the clam shell. If you can find everest or PC wizzard that will show it as well.

    I had to use PC Wizard, because the clam shell on my mobo (near the POST display) doesn't have a sticker on it.

    All right, got a little sleep, ready to try again. Thanks for your help. Without it, I would not have found the BIOS number.

    I ran the torture test from Prime95 for 11 hours with no errors or warnings. Is it safe to assume I don't have any bent pins, or is that still a possibility?

    Anyway, I'm going to put in some of the values you recommended, see how it goes. I hope I'm not spinning my wheels, that even if it works, I'm only going to get a .1% higher 3DMark score, because there's so little practical advantage to 1600MHz over 1067MHz. I know most gains come from overclocking the CPU and GPU.

    The PC's been running fine for a full day, so why not screw that up? (I've given up on OCing memory; all values are default).

    I took it apart again to address my cabling for the six case fans. Afterwards, it failed to POST properly, hanging up right after detecting the SATA devices, with a big black screen and flashing cursor.

    Clearing CMOS gets it to boot again and run fine.

    So what is it that causes hanging during boot whenever power to the motherboard is interrupted? Would a bad battery cause this? Bad PSU? Bad motherboard?

    I want to update this in light of a little discovery I made today.

    I set the memory target frequency to 1600 in BIOS this morning, just to see what would happen. I left everything else on Auto. Guess what? The memory's running at 1600MHz.
     
    So, not only was that original bad motherboard causing my CMOS checksum failures and preventing BIOS flashing, it was also preventing me from running my RAM at anything over 1066.
     
    Bad motherboards are . . . bad.

    I have the exact same issue it seems. According to the thread, the motherboard is bad. Is it possible to set up and RMA from Russia? The motherboard was purchased at Fry's in the USA and is registered.

    Thank you for the reply, yes indeed checked with the support and the warranty is over, which is sad. Waiting for the techs to find a suitable BIOS to try to fix this issue in software. What are the chances that the hardware in the board itself is faulty, not the BIOS?
