Black screen with blinking underscore - gtx 760

I recently purchased the gtx 760 ftw and after installing it my computer sits at the bios screen for about a minute and then goes to a black screen with a blinking underscore. It is seated properly and has power going to it. I have tried it with different monitors and different pcie slots on the mobo and still get the same results. 
 
Specs:
CPU: amd fx8150
1000w power supply
Mobo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Mem: 16gb corsair vengance ddr3
HDD: Samsung evo ssd 250gb

    Try updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest version if it isn't already updated to the latest version already.
