So you're mad at Panasonic, Because you failed to purchase the better (5 year) extended warranty? I don't think you understand how it works, You pay for 2 years warranty, You get 2 years warranty. Not 2 years and 1 day or 2 years and 3 months. Pay the $150 or keep QQing. Your choice.

When they rate a panel to last 50,000 plus hours, I expect a little more than 500. Hopefully my car doesn't have a known issue where the gas tank spontaneously explodes but since that's not covered in the drive-train warranty I better suck it up an not QQ

Warranty is warranty. In Europe the minimum warranty for electronics is 2 years so I budget to make sure that if after two years something goes bad I am ready for it. I have other items such as my PC PSU which has a longer warranty but you really have to be prepared because when the worse happens it's going to happen when you're low on cash. Plasma TVs are about to go extinct so don't buy another one. Even though technology has made them more energy efficient they still suck more electricity than a comparable LCD TV.

Agent, You just had bad luck... Plus I don't think I've heard of anyone buying a Panasonic since back in the Projector TV days... My parents bought an LG 42" back in 2010 and it's still going with no problems... It looks so small for the living room though, I'm literally waiting for it to die out so I can purchase them a 70" TV.

The repair tech said Panasonic already closed their plasma plants. He said 2 years ago he would have recommended my plasma but now, led is way cheaper to manufacture and they are getting pretty darn close to plasma's as far as quality. Lesson learned and I guess maybe tax time, I will have enough saved to fill the blank space on my wall. I have like 5 sets of playstation 3d glasses that are useless now too. Just blows my mind that 1980+ people have the same issue right after warranty is up and yet that's just ok. Next time around; extra, extra warranty and something besides Panasonic.

If offered an extended warranty from the manufacturer at reasonable cost I say "take it". Especially if you to keep the item around for several years.

Yeah, I did it with my 42" lg in the bedroom, I think I have 3 years on it with an offer to extend it later and it's been a great tv. I guess I still have that so it's not like I am without. You just get used to having a big tv. It will be awhile before I get cash saved up but does anyone have any opinions on 4k tvs in general in the 70'' range? I read all the math as far as having to sit super close to notice but in real world tv watching (approx 10 feet away), can any of you notice that big of a difference on blu-rays and such?

That is too bad man. Sometimes things don't last as long as they should, and sometimes they last longer. You got the short end of the stick, sorry man. The Panasonic plasma's were awesome. 2 years ago I was deciding between a 55" Panasonic plasma and the 60" LG plasma I currently own. The Panasonic did have better blacks and a little better colour, but for $500 more it wasn't worth it to me. It is too bad that plasma's are a breed on the brink of extinction with Samsung ending plasma production this November. To this day no LCD handles motion like a plasma does. I also have a 50" LCD, and when it comes time for movies or sports then it is Plasma time! I hope a new technology comes along that handles motion as well as the Plasma did and has the contrast and colour reproduction.

Hard to say without any 4K blu-rays out yet. Right now the only real 4K movies that I can think of is if you have the Sony 4K Media Player that gets you movies directly from Sony. Blu-rays will look better on a UHDTV being upscaled, but it still won't be what you were expecting I bet. Just like how DVDs can look better on a HDTV, but still pale in comparison to seeing a blu-ray on a HDTV. I am going to be purchasing a UHD 4K TV latter this year. I am waiting on Vizio's Reference Series that is going to look amazing when it finally releases (it better not become vaporware). It's not 70", but instead only 65". There will be a 120" model as well, but I doubt anyone here will be able to afford it. If you haven't read about the Reference Series, I would suggest it. The R series has lots of great features, most importantly Dolby Vision HDR (which includes high brightness, High Dynamic Range, and a wider color gamut), first TV to have it too. Not to mention it's a 10-bit panel with 384 LEDs for local dimming, . http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1511154-vizio-reference-series-uhdtvs-ces-2014-a.html

The good thing about buying another Panny Plasma now, is.. If you get the extra extended warrant, and it goes bad.. They wont have the stuff to fix or replace.. so you get a new LED/LCD Tv.

I was a HARDCORE plasma guy. I will have to admit, I have seen a few Lcd displays that are getting pretty darn close to the quality. After this incident, I am team lcd. I spent quite a bit of time calibrating my plasma and getting it to look awesome. Now, I would take a working, saturated, motion blurred, unevenly lit lcd any day over my box of broken gas. I wanted to go against the grain and be a "videophile" with my super picture quality and now I just want to watch a working tv.

I don't get how they can offer only a year warranty anyway on something so expensive. And people griped at EVGA for dropping from lifetime to 5 or whatever year warranties. I think it's sad really. Warranty should be based on price but no be allowed to be less than 1 year (If I buy a radio for 30 bux, I should at least get a year out of it, besides that, for 30 bux I would probably not even care if it died inside a year). So if I buy a TV for 6 grand, it better last more than 5 years. Of course all warranties are non transferable etc. but that would never work, Companies have to make their money on those extended warranties.

I've found quite a few people selling 60 and 65 inch Vizio LED TV's for around 600 dollars on Craigslist in my area. My buddy got one and it's a pretty nice TV. I'd recommend checking into that if the cost of repairs are too much.

No joke...Three years or so into my 55" LG LED 240hz unit now... Next year or a little after it will fail and I will get a 4k unit... MUHAhahahahaha

Costco 5yr Square Trade extended warranties are only $100 more. I've picked two up to date. Oddly enough, I am in the process of using one of them on my Sharp 70" Aquos bought in 11/11/2011. Has a brown spot. On TV's and AV Receivers, I would always get the extended warranty in any future purchases.
