What was the very first rig you built, inherited, hacked, etc.?
Mine was a Compaq Presario, circa 1998 or so I think. I forget the actual model number, but it was sleek and sexy with lurid purple stickers extolling it's many virtues, molded from that ubiquitous beige plastic from the era. LOL
I succeeded in upgrading the thing to pert-near 512 MB of PC100 RAM as I recall!
It sported a Pentium 3 I think, a floppy drive of course, a CD drive given to me by a friend, an enormous 12 GB hard drive, and an amazing 256 MB video card that I added.
Needless to say, I got very tired of the thing after a few months, after which I built my first Pentium 4 rig from the ground up, but it was a valuable training grounds for sure.
Just like the first car I learned to drive on in many ways, which was a Volkswagon beetle.
So how did you get started?

So you are a fairly recent PC builder then? I started in 2003 I think.
Both of your brothers sound like great rigs.

I love Big Brother. Currently the classifieds are with a buddy that is testing them on a 3970x system, so I can weigh the benefits of getting the bigger chip for benchmarking and such.

I came back from a trip to a sunny desert location, reenlisted for a few years, and decided to build one.. It was a horrific start and I didn't know what I was doing. 2 days later, I took everything apart and slowly put it back together, reading labels closely (my manuals were in Japanese only... Couldn't understand anything other than "ASUS" lol)

So, after finishing, I fell in love with building.. Now I can't stop tinkering and I am aiming for records in benchmarks. Currently in the top 30 on a few, with a 4770k going against a few 3930/4930k's... It's so much fun!

I am trying to figure out how to go about getting a CaseLabs case, so I can push everything further.

Also, I just sold step brother to another member of the forums. That was a fun little experiment and will continue to build when possible.
