Ok so I recently bought a Gtx 970 FTW, I watched videos and read review's and I have seen the power it puts out. When I installed it in my computer and I started to play Battlfield 4 I did not get the performance I was expecting my old card was a Gtx 660 and I got way better performance. I installed all the drivers and updated everything. When playing battlefield 4 with the gtx 660 I got around 60-75 fps in 720p on ultra when I got the Gtx 970 ftw it only got 30 fps on ultra still in 720p. I emailed nividia but i wanted to see if anyone could help.

Wow, your 970 is asleep bro Owo

Did you do driver fresh install? I think like, you uninstall all the old ones and then re-install the new ones when you install the new card. Your card might be defective too owo

Hope someone with more vast knowledge than me can help you.

720p is a bit low for a 970. Running the GPU at that resolution is causing the CPU to take on the workload when you game, adding in the 970 just made your bottleneck more apparent. You should be running 1080p so the GPU load will be on the GPU and not the CPU.

What? I was not aware of such a thing.. So resolution can a bottleneck for a card? Why does it make the CPU work harder atthat resolution?

    I hope 1080 144hz won't be bottleneck for GM200.

The CPU is the one that sends the work to the GPU (command queue buffer), if the resolution is low the GPU finishes the work faster, and needs the next command sooner, thus the CPU needs to send it sooner, if the resolution is high, the GPU takes longer to finish the command, thus the CPU is free.

If all else fails, download hwInfo and click on sensors then play BF4 and add screenshots results here.
    Nice username ftw!!

Get cpu-z and click the motherboard tab, and that will give you more info at least.

Maybe rollback to an older driver (clean install) worth a shot.

You should upgrade to a i5 or i7 your i3 isn't the right cpu to have with a 970

720p is a bit low for a 970. Running the GPU at that resolution is causing the CPU to take on the workload when you game, adding in the 970 just made your bottleneck more apparent. You should be running 1080p so the GPU load will be on the GPU and not the CPU.

I am sorry if I come off as rue, but I have to correct this as it is wrong.

The CPU is not having to do extra workload because a more powerful graphics card was added. You are confusing the matter that modern, higher end GPUs are often bottlenecked at lower resolutions (that is indeed correct) with it meaning the CPU actually takes on extra work at lower resolutions and less at higher resolutions.

If the CPU was bottlenecking completely before, which is a worst case scenario and unlikely, then the worst that would have happen is performance would be exactly as it was before. It should not be less. Something else is amiss.

At lower resolutions a CPU does do more work when a more powerful graphics card is added, as the more powerful graphics card is able to finish it's work faster then the older slower card, which means the CPU has to send the GPU more commands sooner.

I never said the CPU would take on less work at higher resolutions. I suggested to the OP to switch to 1080P to put the load back onto GPU as running a high end GPU at 720P is causing the CPU to be the bottleneck.

The CPU was clearly not bottlenecking before.

Ok, are you sure you have v-sync disabled inside the nvidia control panel and inside the game/games you're playing?

I can tell you, that Battlefield 4 is 90% of the time CPU limited when playing on 1080P or below.

I bet your GPU load ist way < 60% ....

Even with my 4790K @ 4.9 Ghz BF4 is CPU limited.

My goal was constant 144FPS at 1080P on Ultra... no way.

I even had 2x980s on SLI...in 1080P both GPUs were running at ~50-70% on average, a clear sign for a CPU limit.

I even tried a 290X with 8GB to see if Mantle can soften up the CPU-Limit, but the 290X was running into the opposite...a GPU limit.

I currently have a 970 SSC the brandnew one (3975) running at a boost of 1522 Mhz. Even with the single 970, you run rather into a CPU Limit then into a GPU limit, due to the fact, that BF4 is using the CPU for almost every physics effect, like smoke, fire, explosions, particles, destruction etc. That's why BF4 is so  CPU dependent.

There is only one Map which has an equal load on the GPU and CPU, that is Pearl Market. There even 2x980s are running on 97% on 1080P.

So, it's totally obvious that your CPU is WAY too slow for what you wanna do.

The only way to get rid of that cap would be reducing the CPU Overhead with a new API (Mantle, DX 12) + 390X , a new generation of processors, or an ultimate overclock to 5.5 Ghz.....
