They went in search evidence of the world’s melting ice caps, but instead a team of climate scientists have been forced to abandon their mission … because the Antarctic ice is thicker than usual at this time of year. The scientists have been stuck aboard the stricken MV Akademik Schokalskiy since Christmas Day, with repeated sea rescue attempts being abandoned as icebreaking ships failed to reach them. Now that effort has been ditched, with experts admitting the ice is just too thick. Instead the crew have built an icy helipad, with plans afoot to rescue the 74-strong team by helicopter. The irony of this situation is amusing...and embarrassing for the scientists, lol 74 Global warming scientists and advocates plus the ships crew went to Antarctica In an ice-strengthened ship to prove to the world that Antarctic sea ice had disappeared because of manmade global warming (caused by CO2 they claim.) This was done in celebration of the trip made 100 years ago and to follow in the footsteps of explorer Douglas Mawson. They got stuck in ten foot thick sea ice they claimed melted away from global warming. A hundred years ago, the entire region, right up to the shore, was completely clear of ice. Explorer Douglas Mawson got within 50 yards of shore in a wooden ship with only a sextant, and was only stopped because of low water. He then traveled 300 miles inland. Those on board the Academic Shokalskiy with GPS navigation, on-board Internet, radar, and satellite communications only got within miles of shore. I dont think one ship getting stuck in one part of the ice disproves climate change. The term is also climate change, not warming (now). This coming from a person who didn't agree with the evidence of climate change for 10 years. However there is so much evidence you have to be stubborn to not change your opinion on the matter. However this is crazy funny and ironic. +Russian icebreakers are among the best icebreaking ship in the world.

your a perfect example of an idiot, with so many faked evidence an then this its like your in DENIAL. but hey just wait until your taxed to death to save the planet from what we breath out then in exchange plants breath an to produce oxygen. its just one of the many global con-games run by Al Gore an his special interest friends. Al Gore is the same guy that said years ago we would be under water BY NOW yet he owns a beach front home O_o. its all just a way to gain more power by always putting fear in the people heart with words of impending doom with the fix being more taxes an regulations. o an to make it even more sad and hilarious, in the 1970's the same criminal Al Gore said it was global cooling an we will all freeze to death now its global warming an were gonna be under water an the earth is gonna die or some crap like that. the chart shows that from 2012 - 2013 the ice is really growing rapidly an not melting.

One don't call me an idiot, its not ok to call anyone an idiot on EVGA.com. Two you cant open up an argument with an insult... But I'm the idiot? Now to your photo. How do you know that the photo above wasn't altered? They could have taken photo of the ice sheet from a warmer part of the year and wrote 2012 on it and another photo of the ice sheet from a cooler month and wrote 2013 on it... The ice sheets contract and expand with the seasons. + that Nasa photo is stupid, Nasa has evidence to support climate change. Photos from facebook are not evidence, just propaganda. Why I the world would I listen to anything a politician has to say? Why would anyone listen to al gore? I hate the guy more than you, trust me. World Gov aren't doing much to lower the green house gas. In the US most politics don't agree with global climate change. However almost every scientific community agrees with each other that the threat is here and real. I do know where you're coming from. It was maybe two-three years ago I was on your side of the debate. However with amount of evidence stacked against your side I changed my opinion. Its ok to change your mind when new information comes to light.

ACE? Just so you know, I have no idea where you're finding this stuff, but no reputable scientist anywhere, ever predicted that all the ice would vanish from Antarctica by August 2013. If you're basing your beliefs on information from a Web site that is claiming the other side makes absurd claims like that, you may find that other information you obtain from that site is somewhat less than factual as well.

Thanks seth89, I did like the read about South Korea's Bet on Arctic Shipping Lanes. I think it is a good idea as well and I am glad for the help from USSR as well. I did have a reply about Global Warming or Climate Change our whatever we call it in 10 years but pulled it.

Here is my theory on the whole climate thing. Earth is going to do what it wants to do. It is going to get real hot, melt everything down. Then it is going to get real cold, ice everything over, maybe even another ice age, and cool down again. Look at the history of the earth, didn't it have 3 ice ages or some something? If anything, we are just speeding up the warming process if we are doing anything at all. I personally think global warming is just a bunch of bull. Do I think we need to take better care of the air, yes, but not because of global warming. This year so far, most northern states have a seen a record amount of snow fall and cold temperatures. All I have been thinking lately, what is this global warming you speak of?

who really cares what happens? We all will die and what happens after that point is really meaningless. Sure I want to make the world a better place for my kids (Once I have some) But in reality we as a species will continue to do what we do best.

Watch the documentary "Chasing Ice" which just came out on Netflix. Watch it with an open mind. http://www.chasingice.com/ Then come back to me and say that no melting is happening and everything is fine.

Im not trying to debate the issue but climate change is a naturally occuring process that has happened several times in the past (see glaciated ice ages). Therre is no evidence that humans are causing it to happen or even speed up. Yes we pump out some greenhouse gases but volcanoes pump out a lot more. I think we should be more concerned about polluting the environment and wasting natural resources instead, just my opinion.

+1 Saying there is no climate change at all is ignorant. The earth goes through alternating cycles of heat and cold. The question about if humans are helping speed up the process is still up for debate, not enough evidence to say we are or aren't. And I agree Blacksapphire, we should be more concerned about polluting the environment and wasting natural resources instead. It's not like we can stop the climate from changing (it's going to happen no matter what... unless I make a magical weather changing machine *insert evil laugh*).

I dont know about you guys but here are 16 things that I compiled up that “global warming” is unrealistic and that we have now MAYBE entered a period of global cooling… 1. According to a leaked UN report that absolutely rocked the “global warming” believers, the earth has not gotten any warmer for the past 15 years. 2. The amount of ice covering the Arctic is up by 50 percent compared to this time in 2012. 3. In just one week in late November, a combined total of more than 1000 new cold temperature and snowfall records were set in the United States. 4. In just one week in December, a combined total of more than 2000 new cold temperature and snowfall records were set in the United States. 5. On December 15th, 53 percent of the United States was covered in snow. That was the highest level on this date in 11 years. 6. A snowstorm that spanned more than 1,000 miles slammed into New England on Sunday. 7. Some areas of upstate New York were hit with about six feet of snow a few days ago. 8. Chicago just experienced that coldest temperatures that it has seen in December in nearly 20 years. 9. On December 7th, Eugene, Oregon recorded the lowest temperature that it has seen since December 11th, 1972. 10. A few days ago, three feet of snow closed roads in Jerusalem. It was the worst snow storm in Israel since 1953. 11. Heavy snow also fell on parts of Saudi Arabia. That was considered to be extremely unusual. 12. The recent snowfall in Turkey was so bad that it closed 900 roads. 13. Temperatures have dropped so low that some Syrian war refugees are actually dying from the cold. 14. Cairo, Egypt just had the first snowfall that it has experienced in 100 years. 15. It was so cold in Canada recently that the Arctic Winter Games biathlon trials were forced indoors. 16. According to NASA satellite data, a temperature of minus 135 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded in Antarctica back in July. So why is all of this happening? As time goes by, the scientific evidence continues to mount. It is becoming painfully evident that the theory of man-made global warming simply is not true. The following is from a recent New American article… Well, 2013 is almost over, and contrary to the alarmist “http://www.thegatewaypund...e-ice-free-in-5-years/]predictions[/link]” by Gore and what critics refer to as his “doomsday cult,” the latest satellite data show that Arctic ice cover has actually expanded 50 percent over 2012 levels. In fact, during October, sea-ice levels grew at the fastest pace since records began in 1979. Experts predict the expansion to continue in the years to come, leaving global-warming alarmists scrambling fiendishly for explanations to save face — and to revive the rapidly melting climate hysteria. In September, meanwhile, data also showed that sea ice levels in Antarctica had expanded to record levels for the second year in a row. Of course, by now, virtually everyone who has been following news about “global warming” — now more often referred to as “climate change” owing to public-relations concerns — also knows that global temperatures have not risen for some 17 years. The spectacular lack of warming demolished all 73 of the “climate models” used by the United Nations to push its controversial theories.
Sadly, most of the governments of the planet still consider “man-made global warming” to be one of the greatest threats facing us, and the U.S. government is leading the charge. In fact, the U.S. government has been giving other nations billions of dollars to help them cope with “climate change”… American taxpayers spent $7.45 billion to help developing countries cope with climate change in fiscal years 2010 through 2012, according to a federal government report submitted to the United Nations on a subject that Secretary of State John Kerry described as “a truly life-and-death challenge.”
Yes, the climate of the earth is changing. Throughout history it has always been changing. Most of that change is due to fluctuations in the gigantic ball of fire that our planet is revolving around. But the idea that carbon dioxide is going to “destroy the planet” is ludicrous. Without carbon dioxide we would all die. And the notion that “man-made global warming” is the “greatest threat” that humanity is facing is absolutely laughable. Sadly, nothing seems to dissuade the true believers. Not even days like today around the US and Canada's freezing temperatures currently at the time of this post.

I do find this somewhat funny when you have basically neglected to look at what is happening in say Australia that is currently registering the hottest temperatures ever recorded right now as we speak whilst your freezing. Some areas are predicted to reach 50 degrees C or 122 F so my friend if you are willing to go visit these people who live in these areas and convince them there is no warming going on be my guest. But hey it is not like Australia is part of your detailed planet earth global cooling analysis anyway. On the topic of ice ages and cycles im sure there are reasons for it I would advocate considering is that the axis and rotation of the earth might have something to do with the whole ice age thing. And if that is the case it is maybe something they can plot on a chart and say hey hang on this is an unusual temperature anomaly for this part of the cycle I have been painstakingly plotting on the chart I have been creating from ice core samples dating back say a million years or so. But hey I trust you guys for my climate change information honest... The truth is im smart enough to know im not smart enough to have an opinion contrary to the scientific community. As far as I know the latest best guess is that climate change is going on and it is being driven by changes we have made in the short space of time we have existed on the planet for some reason. There next best guess it is could be the pollution we are pumping out into the air and even if that is totally wrong it is still a pretty stupid thing to continue to do when there are alternatives but anyway that is a different argument entirely. The scientists information has never been infallible and no scientific theory is without it's skeptics but politics is akin to religion in my opinion and sometimes when all the evidence is saying the earth is round sometimes you maybe have to go with what the evidence is saying. You will always find evidence to the contrary in scientific fields but what I personally think is important is the general consensus of the scientific community.

Every so many years we get closer or further from the sun. That is why some places are heating up some aren't. Climate change is a natural occurring process.

BF3PRO Every so many years we get closer or further from the sun. That is why some places are heating up some aren't. Climate change is a natural occurring process.
Milankovitch cycles are not "every so many years", they're 26,000 years for a full period of axial precession, and 100,000 years for a full period of orbital eccentricity. Furthermore those have already been factored into climate change, yet they do not explain the occurrences in the past 150 years of recorded data.

To me that's every so many years. I mean the earth is only a couple seconds old if you like to study that sort of stuff (time and space)...

I think the whole theory is that small land use changes cause small climate changes (removing forests has be proven to decrease rain precipitation). Small man-made land use changes (paved areas, forest being turned into range land, et cetera) cause a small change in climate and when you add all of these small land use changes globally, there is a impact on temperatures, albedo (radiation absorption), and precipitation. Undeniable....

Things like the "urban heat island" effect do not make up the majority of what science is claiming as man-made climate change. It has a lot more to do with overall global temperature and sea temp/level in relation to the abundance of CO2 in the atmosphere and the oceans. The massive rise in CO2 over the past 150 years is less attributed to things like deforestation and much more attributed to mass industrialization.
