http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/181d/ I can see by reading the description that this keyboard has a lot of cool features, but in my opinion they do not add up to $2400.00 worth of coolness. Does anyone have any REAL thoughts as to why the price is so high and not just jokes? I am honestly curious if there is a justifiable reason for the price. P.S. I checked with the site and it is NOT a typo.

The reason is right there in the description Each of its 77 keys shows a half-inch-square display of your choosing and does what you want it to, programmed through a piece of software called the Configurator. So if you're in Excel a lot, you can plug one of your macros right into a key for easy access. It's basically 77 customizable shortcut keys with coordinating display for each application you want to program. And the area between the numeral keys and the function keys, which we currently use as a crumb catcher or a place to put our pen and then subsequently lose it, becomes a display bar. Let it show which keyboard layout you're in. Let it show timely push updates from various applications, like weather services, stock tickers, server alerts. Let it show in 262,144 vivid colors the crumbs that would have been there were it not. Lots of screens. Lots of colors. Lots of money. Feel free to use my tagline for the product.

There is a reason why its so much. Its because of a thing called "stupid consumer." Some idiot out there is going to buy one of these for that price. In my honest opinion that keyboard should be around the $400-500 dollar range instead of that price. We already have keyboards out there with less features worth $250. With that much money I can almost buy 2 ounces of gold at the time of this post. Just need to cough up $67.40 more to reach two ounces.

It has to do with the key count and the cost of each key used in it. The price gets exponential.

Is it Gold plated? I like the concept...Nice construction even...But, no way would I ever pay $2400 for a keyboard...That's even pushing it for an entire build...(Just did a 4770K/Z87 OC Force build for $1700 before vid cards)...
Gigabyte Z590 Vision G Mobo, intel i3 10105 CPU, 32GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR4 3200 RAM, EVGA GTX 750ti FTW Video Card, EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 power supply, Fractal Design Focus G (White) case, Cooler Master Hyper212 RGB Black CPU cooler. 2 Dell LED Monitors (20" & 24"), SK Hynix Gold 1TB SATA SSD (OS Drive), 6 WD HDDs 13TB total (Storage). Rig is a partial update on the old Gigabyte P43/Q6600 OC rig... The WD HDD's, (13TB, total), Blu-ray & DVD burners, GTX750ti FTW & Supernova 850 G2 psu, migrated from old setup... Will get an 11700K, and an RTX 3060 12GB Black card, when I'm ready to OC... Windows 11 Pro set for performance, and it runs at 4.2Ghz... Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience Wheel/Pedals, Built for Gaming, Video Production, and Cakewalk, Cubase DAWs...

This keyboard isn't meant for gamers, or for mainstream use. Sure, if a gamer bought this that might make him a "stupid consumer", but for a U.N. translator who can suddenly type in two languages at once or a Day Trader who can execute macro computations and process sale transactions simultaneously it's a boon. Don't automatically assume every piece of technology out there was made for with gamers or hardware enthusiasts in mind. ;)

The only real reason to go this way is for tactile feedback on the keystrokes. Otherwise, just do the same thing with a touchscreen. Conceptually, this is going to get surpassed by tablet tech.

I see why it costs so much... The paint on the keyboard is applied several times with a brush made from the hair of virgins.

Thank you for the replies. Some of the things said make sense, I was just blown away seeing this price while cruising a site meant more for toys then high end keyboarding. Side note I bought this hoodie for my wife it should be here Monday and from the videos and reviews I think it will be fun to play with. It actually appeared on their site two years ago as an April fools joke and a couple of weeks ago it came into production. They have since sold out twice (first stock was gone in a day and the second and final stock lasted about three days) I think if they added an IR receiver or something that could allow duals at a LARP event or at least some sort of proximity sensor it would up the coolness factor. I.. Kinda want to try that. I always miss having a keyboard on my phone and the options when it was time to upgrade just sucked at the time.
