EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST Firmware Update v80.06.59 - Updated 05/08/13

Please note this update is only for the 1GB models!

Q. What are the changes in this new firmware?
  • Updated in 80.06.59 - Updated compatibility
  • Resolve "Driver Stopped Responding" error at first reboot after driver installation

Q. Do I need to reapply this update every time I update a driver or reinstall the O.S.?
A. This update is attached to the card, no matter where it goes. If you update the driver, the EVGA firmware update is still applied.

Q. How can I tell what version I firmware I currently have?
A. There are multiple ways to do this, one way is to right click on desktop and go to NVIDIA control panel. Click on Help, then System Information. Scroll to the bottom of the Details window and it will show your "Video BIOS version". It will be listed as EXAMPLE: 80.04.31.00.72. The numbers in bold identify the version number.

Q. I just bought my card, will it have this updated firmware?
A. Chances are yes, as new firmware is release, new products shipping from EVGA will also have this firmware version applied.

Installation
  • Download the correct .zip file below for your graphics card below.
  • Extract the files to a location on disk.
  • Make sure no programs are running in the background, and double click update.exe.
  • Press "Y", then ENTER to begin the update.
  • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS!
  • After update, restart PC.

Hi, I have two 1GB GTX 650 Ti Boosts in my setup.  One has video firmware of 80.06.59.50 and the other 80.06.59.52.

    Two questions:
    1)  What version does this firmware update to?  Just 80.06.59.00?

    2)  If I run the software, does it update both cards, or do I have to pull one and run the update, then swap cards and run the update again?

Reason I ask is that I can't get sli to stay enabled, and I am wondering if that is due to the difference in firmware between my two cards.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Does the update makes this card compatible with the Dell XPS 8300? Also, is the 2GB version already compatible with the Dell XPS 8300?

This update is more for stability, with the specific XPS 8300 issue we would recommend contacting dell. This issue is across the board with all kepler 600 series video cards and this model of XPS.

I heard Dell has no plans to update the BIOS in order to make the 600 series cards compatible. However, I contacted one of Dell employees and they told me the 650 Ti (non-boost) was indeed compatible with the XPS 8300. So now I think that, maybe, some 600 series cards actually work (like the 650) on a XPS 8300 and the issue is more with 660, 670 and 680 cards.

I know you guys receive lots of emails about complains or even questions, so I wanna ask, have you heard a successful or failed upgrade story with the GTX 650 Ti or GTX 650 Ti Boost on a XPS 8300?

At the time of the 600 series release all kelper video cards would not work in the XPS 8300. If something changed that is great to hear, unfortunately I can't confirm that any of the kepler models will work. However if Dell said the GTX 650 would work you could give it a try.

Thanks Joey! I'll give it a try, if it works I'll post it here. Btw, I just found out a success story with the GTX 650 Ti:
