Hi all,

As recommended by STR1D3R_2, I'm posting a new thread here on an observation I made about the distribution of folding work done by some top teams. I'm comparing this team with LTT and PCMR as because the latter 2 are very social media oriented and it shows from the distribution curve of folding contribution by members.

This is "Production Group Totals" from Extreme Overclocking page for each team's summary. Left hand side is the average PPD bucket and right hand side is number of members.

EVGA:
2M+ - 19
1M+ - 55
500k+ - 122
250k+ - 215
100k+ - 242
50k+ - 150
15k+ - 330
1+ - 494

LTT:
2M+ - 48
1M+ - 192
500k+ - 1,017
250k+ - 3,088
100k+ - 6,945
50k+ - 5,774
15k+ - 11,445
1+ - 23,780

PCMR:
2M+ - 5
1M+ - 29
500k+ - 154
250k+ - 537
100k+ - 1,150
50k+ - 1,209
15k+ - 3,596
1+ - 9,471

It's interesting to see that our team doesn't have that big group of folks folding at lower PPDs. Thoughts?

First thought is we have quite a few heavy hitters that hit the second tier within a few days and drop off and crunch for the remainder of the month.
You can really see that in this video.

Corona virus is turning the folding world upside down. Look further down the page and peruse the last 12 months for those teams and also the Nvidia Corporation team way down the list 88th currently. We’ve been near the top for years and will continue to be.
Thanks for bringing it up because we can always use more folders and crunchers. I know squat about social media and gaming but EVGA is a gaming community first and foremost.

Yeah, I'm glad I joined the folding team here. Heard about it as I went around registering my first EVGA card a few months ago.

Three reasons... team size, EVGA incentivizes folding here which requries high-end GPUs, and lastly we're a mostly GPU folding team.

A person needs to fold ~1.2M PPD in order to make the 30M monthly point total for the full $10 monthly credit. This requires a 1080 Ti going 24/7 to achieve, only the latest 2070 and higher cards can fold faster. This isn't to pick on EVGA or criticize, I'm very happy that they continue to support and reward Folders! But it does require serious hardware, even the 10M limit is no slouch for people... literally 10M requires a 970 card or better folding 24/7.

EVGA grew this team by rewarding its folders and it is why Team EVGA has reigned supreme for so many years. The covid19 research has really upended the apple cart as it were, so people are throwing just anything into F@H again, as if it was 2007 all over again.

Lastly, GPUs fold a lot of points. CPUs just don't compare. An old 780 would automatically place someone in the 100K+ tier, a 780 Ti would be 250K tier which is already halfway up the rankings.

This. Thanks for reminding me about the bucks. I totally forgot about that moving bar that gets moved every year. Doesn't help that being a newbie in desktop PCs, I jumped right into RTX cards, not knowing my 970s from 1070s.
Just imagine when Ampere comes out...

    Crazy numbers.

LTT made a how to fold video during these troubling times and their numbers exploded with massive recruitment to their team.  They seized the moment and it payed off big time.

The"Default Team" has obvious advantages ... just like Microsoft, who setup that script to Fold with CPUs - Under the "Microsoft Team" - by default

I'm glad that many people have joined Folding for the Fight for CoVid19

We can always hope people who recently started Folding --> Continue to Fold for the Cure

After they get their electric bill we will see if they continue

CPU folding ... my best guess is that several business have thrown their servers at it ... their doors are closed, so why not

EVGA gives the - Reward to Folders, to help them keep their equipment up to date

Your not going to "make money" based on the reward .... after you pay for your electric

I would say EVGA has heavy hitters because they are using GPU's and are really into it.  Some of these other places are subscribers or forum readers that just do not put the cash in like EVGA Folders do.  My team has hardly anyone Folding but we have 2 heavy hitters and that keeps us in the running.  But since people jumping on the Folding band wagon with Covid we are going to get passed up quickly.  But I am in it until I can't afford to do it or die so we may climb back up as people get bored with Folding as right now allot are doing but could fade away like they have in the past.

As an individual ranking I am at 67 worldwide right now.  Looking at overtake in a year I will be in the 30's.  That is before I will install some 3080TI's.  So who know how quick I could climb the ladder.

I'm chomping at the bit to hear pricing. I'm sure it'll be outrageous and feel like a gut-punch.

I'll wager the price has to come down or at least stay the same. No one has extra funds right now. The market all over is in a recession and tons of service workers are out of jobs. Not that AMD or Intel have anything to pressure Nvidia with.

Maybe the threat of AMD maybe having something could get some movement in the price market. At worst it is going to get us somewhere in the performance department. I am mostly happy with my 2080ti. Based on my calculations, if I run it for folding over the next 15 months I will actually have a break even due to not running the other 5 GPUs I was using previously(which got less than half of what the 2080ti is getting in PPD) on the negative side I am doing many less WU. At least I am doing them faster.
