Dunno if anyone can help or identify the problem, but ever since I updated the nvidia drivers on my Asus G53 laptop it's been getting bad artifacts. I was seeing it in the aero elements of Windows and I can't even run Unreal Tournament 3 because it glitches out and freezes. It was behaving itself just fine before the update. I had a solid 60 FPS in UT3 and now I can't even get past the first menu. I went back to the older drivers that worked before, but it's still acting up. Tried OC scanner and it can't even properly render the EVGA logo. I figured it was overheating, but the GPU temp is only in the 60s. During tests or when trying to run a game the screen gets artifacts all over it and/or crashes the driver or freezes.

I managed to get this error about OpenGL:

I am outputting through HDMI to a display, even using the laptop screen it still can't run any games. Well, I did get games to run for a while without artifacts by down-clocking, but the FPS was halved. Then I went back to default clocks and it was still halved. I checked power management to see if it was throttling something, but it was still on high performance. I have tried a clean install of the old drivers, but it's still being stupid. I'm lucky to get it working and even when I do it's only half the speed it was before. I don't get how something functioning perfectly fine can be irrevocably broken by a newer driver to the point where even the old driver doesn't work. All I can do with this now is browse the internet and if I'm lucky the GPU won't throw a fit.

Sounds and looks as if the GPU can not do anything 3D wise. Looks like a time for an RMA of the laptop.

I down-clocked slightly and downloaded VGA drivers from Asus themselves (296.16 is the newest they have) and I've finally got it working the way it was before with UT3 doing 60 FPS and no artifacts (so far). I thought that the intended Verde 301.42 drivers from nvidia would have worked fine, but I guess not. Even the minimize/maximize animation for windows was glitched, I've rarely seen drivers screw things up that badly. It really looked like the GPU was dying, but it seems just fine now.
