Hey guys,

I was hoping I wouldn't need to upgrade my graphics card until after the 700 series cards were released and I could build a new rig, but it looks like my 295 HC died on me for the 4th time and it's finally out of warranty..

Anyhow, I was looking to get an EVGA 670 4GB FTW (04G-P4-3673-KR) card to hold me over until I plan to upgrade everything. The problem is it's been a while since I've done my research on blocks and I was planning to go with the EK copper/acetal block. However, looking at their waterblock configuration page it seems that they recommend the 680 block and backplate for this card.

I noticed a similar post regarding a 670 4GB SC card that was able to use the EK 670 block and backplate without any problems (here). I would rather buy these if they'll work simply because they're mostly in stock at the US retailers and slightly cheaper than the 680 alternative.

Anyone have recommendations or success stories regarding this? Advice is much appreciated!

I contacted EK support and here's what they had to say:

Thank you for contacting EK Support.

We can confirm that EK-FC680 GTX+ waterblock is compatible with EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW+ 4GB GDDR5 (04G-P4-3673) video card.

They didn't mention anything regarding the back plate but im assuming the 670 or 680 backplate will work, however, does the 670 have a shorter PCB than the 680? I guess that's the question now. I've submitted another ticket, but it probably won't be until tomorrow that I receive a response.

I can confirm from ownership.
the GTX 670 FTW 2GB and 670 FTW+ 4GB both use the reference 680 PCB.

Both cards are compatible with reference 680 waterblocks, i have owned both 2gb and 4gb versions of the 670 FTW and have used it with heatkiller 680 blocks and backplate.

the vanilla 670 and 670 SC uses the reference 670 pcb which is shorter than a reference 680's and should be paired with the reference 670 block and backplate, that's where you see the difference from the other posts.

the reference 670 blocks/plates and 680 blocks/plates are NOT interchangeable.

hope this helps
