Which would be better for gaming, i just realistically plan on playing some battlefield 3 and 4 when it comes out later. Just wondering what would be better the sli configuration would not be much more than the one 680 but would it be that much better? I remember i had a 285 gtx a few years ago then went to sli 460gtx's and they were awesome! Any input on reliability between the two would also be appreciated, thanks.

If you can afford it, get 2 680's... Right now 660ti's in SLI are performing extremely well for me.

When do you need it by and how long will you keep the upgrade until you change/add? The pair of 660 Ti's will render an average 60% faster ( pick any game tested) than a single 680, but anyone telling you to get 680 anyway is making the assumption that you will get another for SLI someday. But then you could get a third 660 Ti someday too, that option is tested in that review, but will require a resolution above 1080p to scale better.

XrayManTwo 680's in sli. Which certainly falls within the scope of the question, doesn't it?...

Ok so this leads me to my next question. Two 660ti's seems the way to go. Would prob be good enough for a few years but a friend who is building another rig said if I go with sli I should get the 2011 socket and motherboard bc that works better with sli.
Have been looking into the i5 3570k 1155 socket and an msi mobo. Is he just blowing that out of proportion? Or should you be getting a 2011 socket for sli? I don't need it to max out so I am sure the above setup in sli would be fine.

X79 is overpriced for the average user. A Z77 with a 3550K (4 core no hyperthreads) will get the most bang for your buck. It supports pcie 3.0 and will run a 8x on each card. The X79 will run at 16x on each card, but you won't see much of a performance improvement. There may be tweaks necessary to run your X79 at pcie 3.0 . Save the headache and money and go with Z77...

60c is perfectly fine! You can also change the fan curves in precision X to help keep them cooler but 60c is perfect. chatterbugwhat Man my 660 ti's are beltching heat like 60c in game! i dunno! anyone think i should try a spot cooler? sys. core i5 ivy msi gd56 corsair dom 16 gb ddr3 2x gtx 6tx 660 ti sc corsair hx 1050 h100i s/g b/c 2tb 6g/b sec c/m storm stryker

I have to say I am very happy with my pair of 660ti's especially when overclocked. They scaled very well and run every game with ease on max settings at 1080p but to be honest if I could do it all over again I would of went with a pair of 680s! 660 ti x 2 is a very stout combo though!
