Hello all,

I've been looking around for an upgrade for awhile now,
I've been trying to decide whether or not to buy this gtx 560 ti 448 core classified.
I wanted to wait for kepler series but the word has it that the 700 series won't be out till summer of 2012, ( for Mid-Range) and as late as Sept- Dec of 2012 ( for High-end).
The biggest reason why I want to upgrade is lack of my VRAM.  I'm getting Killed in AA and all the eye catches due to the ram limit.
I play at 1920x1080p.

As of now my 460s are oced to 850mhz and scores about 7400 in 3dmark11 (290 Beta Driver).  However, this doesn't mean anything as I can't even completely max out Batman:AC while a regular version of gtx 560 ti can.  I can't even move with everything maxed out.  It's like watching a replay in slow motion...

I want to hear some feedback about my situation.
Thank YOu

Yes, it should be a nice upgrade. The 448 is right on the heels of the GTX 570, but get it while you can because it will only be available for a limited time...

The limiting factor with your 460 758mb setup is the framebuffer.  If you're playing at 1080p or higher, you'll notice a difference at native resolution in very high detail games.

Honestly though, gtx460's are based on the same architecture, and with two, you have significantly more stream processors.  So unless you're facing a framebuffer limiting your playing... You will in fact probably LOSE performance in this upgrade...  Think of it this way... you have 336sp x2, vs the single 448 core 560ti...
    Simply more compute power.

A single 448-core GTX560 Ti is NOT going to be faster than your pair of 460's with a grand total of 672-cores.  Initially, your performance will drop significantly until you overclock the 448 to a shader frequency to 2GHz just to match what you have.  Yeah, there is 1280MB versus your 768MB, but overclocks aren't gauranteed, thus I won't call that can upgrade for you.   But it's your money.

Right now the only single cards that can outperform your pair at stock is either a GTX590 or HD6990, both of which are beyond your budget.   Even a GTX580 needs to be overclock to 1770MHz on the shader to match your cards.

BTW, people who are excited or impatient will misinterpret even rumors, nVidia's next card is not a year away.  The upcoming HD7970 and GTX590 are about on par but when HD7990 (dual gpu) shows up around this summer 2012, then the first Kepler high-end must reclaim the crown.  nVidia isn't so behind that they are willing to hand over the market to AMD so they can monopolize and overcharge.

That said, the first Kepler high-ends will be out of your budget anyway, just like 260/280, 470/480 and 570/580 all debuted above $399.  Look to Kepler midrange, something to succeed 560 series, i.e. a ficticious "GTX760".

    Thanks for the replies.
In all honesty though, the game that I play the MOST is World of Warcraft, which is SLI Nightmare, and doesn't even really take advantage of SLI, Hence why I want to go back to Single Setup.  I've really had bad experiences with SLI thus far, with screen flickering, drivers crashes, etc..and as of now, I do not want to SLI anymore, however, running just 1 single gtx 460 is not enough for some of the games I play.

I really like to turn on eye catches when I play games like AA, Ambient occulusion etc, but as of now, I have to turn most of them off in games like Batman:AC, and GTA IV.

Chances are I'm probably going to upgrade to Kepler when it comes out anyways and just wanting something to hold through for another 6 months or so.   The release date wasn't a rumor, but a screen shot of NVIDIA's SLIDE of Kepler Release date over this summer in a conference, where they clearly back dated the release date of Kepler technology.  As High end Cards always comes out later then mid range cards as it was for 400s and 500s, realistically september release date which is the 4th quarter may not be unheard of.

I second getting the 560 Classified. I had a pair of 280s in SLI and was pondering to get the 560 Classified or not because of the cheap price and awesome performance. I am glad I did! It certainly matches up to the 570, but when OCed I think it surpasses the 570 and even close to a 580

a pair of 280's are not even close to comparable to a pair of 460's.
280 to 560.. yeah great upgrade.
460 sli to 560 single?  waste of money.  It won't fix any of the issues you're describing.  You'd probably get better performance by just fixing your SLI problems and waiting for kepler.

That too, I agree with. Fixing the SLI issues on the 460 is much much more worth it and then waiting for the new series next year.

Just want to give you guys an update.
For those of you that said it's not gonna fix my issues, man are you wrong.
I just installed it tonight and Overclocked to 900/1800/2100 using 1.038 Vcore.
As I mentioned, Batman:AC is running AMAZING with 8AA and everthing else MAXED OUT, as my previous 460's it couldn't even run above settings.
I dont think you guys realize i had the 768mb Version NOT 1 GB version.  Most gtx 460 SLI comparisons between gtx 580 is for 1 GB models, NOT 768MB.  Plus I play at 1080P which does improve my performance over 768 mb.
This Extra RAM on the classified Card really did help me ALOT.
I'm actually glad i made this purchase, and I still score 6500 3dmark11 with the settings above which is close to a stock gtx 580.

Yup the 560 Classified is an awesome OCing beast. When mines is OCed to around your specs it matches up to my friend's 580.  Although I would recommend bumping up the voltage a little. I think when I ran it at 1.038v and at 900/1800 I got a lot of artifacts through OC scanner. But when I bumped it to 1.088, all was well.

Yeah, enthusiasts are often notorious for underestimating the value of card memory; seems like overclocking is all that is discussed and focused on.  768mb of memory is not nearly enough for today's games at 1080p.  Lack of VRAM results in hitching and stuttering which makes gameplay downright miserable.  I played Crysis 2 DirectX 11 Ultra with texture mod for a couple of hours last night and memory used per Precision showed 1900mb during firefights.  My experience has swayed me over to the "max your memory" side of the equation!

I am in kind of the same boat as the OP. I posted on it a few days ago, and just got back on my computer for the first time in a few days. I have a 460GTX 1GB card and have been fighting the upgrade bug. Can either do a 560Ti 448, or pay 160 less and get a 2nd 460. My issue is that finding a 460 to match mine is quite difficult.

Which poses a question. If I bought a 448 core, and set my current 460 as dedicated physx, would I notice a huge difference between that, and 2 460's in sli? I realize I would have a small window for an Sli set-up with the 448 considering its limited status.

Or would I be better off getting a 560GTX for now, and then getting a 560 later for Sli? I figure I can spend about 400 now, but Im kind of looking at getting an SSD as well. Man, this stuff can give you a headache.

I would get the 560 classified and sell your 460 for money towards the 560 classified. Like youngd8 said, my 560 classified, too, has no problems running Batman Arkham City maxed with full PhysX. Less heat generation and electricity usage of running 2 cards.

I've been building computers since 1998 when my Monster Voodoo SLI setup of 12mb video memory handled everything.  Throughout the years, I've always tried to purchase cards with the most memory on them I could.  I remember when the Doom 3 512mb Ultra texture version of the game was released,  the Ultra version would remain greyed out in the menu unless the game detected a 512mb card.

After my experience with Crysis 2 Ultra, I wouldn't leave home without a 2+gig in my rig.  I would take my EVGA GTX 570 HD  2.5gig "normal clocked"  card over a EVGA GTX 570 1280mb "factory overclocked" Classified card any day of the week!!!  Again, I'm just sold of the value of added memory instead of overclocking on cards.

    Cliffs:
If you play games that use more than 768mb ram at 1080p resolution, you will benefit.

Otherwise, you will lose a significant amount of performance.

The only person who can figure that out is you.
