My wife does all of her work on the computer, as well as some games. And since we were in Scotland, (then caught in Lockdown in Scotland). I decided it would be a good idea to build her a computer for her birthday / Christmas

The computer is to bee used for Video Editing, Graphics Design, Ever On Going College Work (she’s a Vet) , also for keeping in touch with her family in the USA.

The plan was to have a Mirrored Stogie array for her college work, 1 SSD for games and another for  work storage. 1 nvme as a boot disc, another as fast work / programs for design , and the last for fast video editing.

The Preferred Graphics card in October when I started getting all of this was the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming. Its got close to the power of the 3090 but a more palatable price, and would kill 2 rtx 2080Ti’s in SLI.

Though at the moment it’s stuck running an EVGA 980ti , as it was all that I had in the house for the supposed short term (back in December, i thought that this would be done in a couple more months at most)

At this moment in time, I am possibly going to have to take one on My RTX 2080 FTW3’s out and put it in her computer if I cannot get a card soon, before we return to the USA.

Her only specification to the computer----- IT MUST HAVE RGB------ (not my choice lol)

Already Bought and built together

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Thermal Compound: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 1 g Thermal Paste
Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Storage: Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage: Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Case: Corsair iCUE 465X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair HX Platinum 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit
Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster AE-9 32-bit 384 kHz Sound Card
Case Fan: Corsair iCUE QL120 41.8 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack

Monitor: LG 43UN700-B 42.5" 3840x2160 60 Hz Monitor
Keyboard: Corsair K100 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Corsair DARK CORE RGB Wireless Optical Mouse
Headphones: Corsair HS70 WIRELESS 7.1 Channel  Headset

Now the supply has levelled out , I ordered her the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor yesterday. But still cannot get a Graphics card LMAO

I am still on Every list I can be for an RTX 3080 (of any kind) as well as now the RTX 3070  / (3070 ti to be added ), but the sad point is that for the first time in over a decade I am looking at manufacturers other than EVGA , Sad, but the needs outweigh the wants!!

The other alternative that I have, is to buy a complete pre built computer, Just to get a graphics card, I would not mind, except All of the parts above would be just Scrap, or the parts coming with the computer would be scrap… either way, its just wasting money, and that’s not something I like doing!!!

I'm betting you could sell the remainder of the premade for the cost of its parts at the very least in todays market.

Might be 'wasting' a bit of money, but at least you'd get your vid card for the Wife.......

    AMD Ryzen 7900x3d
    Deepcool LT720
Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX X670 (Might change..don't like this board)
eVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming (Hybrid kit on it)
Asus ROG Swift PG43UQ 4k Monitor
    eVGA 1600W Supernova T2 PSU
    32GB Kingston 6000 DDR5 (2x16GB) Fury
    Corsair MP600 Pro 2TB (Boot)
    Corsair MP600 2TB (Games/Data)
    Phanteks P500A Case

The Corsair case was an absolute NIGHTMARE, i ended up cutting and butchering the 3.5" drive caddies, as the power supply just about touches it, without the cables being installed.. sticking to Nvme and SSDs is ok, but not a case for normal hdd's

the operating system has since been changed to the windows enterprise version, as its a lot better for the virtual discs.

another point that I would make, is the Keyboard, she loves it, I personally hate it, much preferring my K95. the k100 optical keys are far to sensitive for my liking.

the Dark Core Mouse, is supposed to be wired / wireless, it sometimes works wireless, but will not charge, and has ended up being simply a wired mouse.

the capellix cooler I thought was a better deal than the H150 + corsair commander that I have, as it comes with one, turns out its not a real version but a custom one for the cooler, making icue profiles touchy when moving between systems.

The Dual monitors, Big one for games / work small one for control etc, are very nice, but not being used anywhere near their potential because of the GTX 980 Ti FTW.

the last job (side from getting a graphics card) will be to Liquid cool the whole thing.. but I will  get some picture posted as to how it looks , (the living room is like a disco when its full RGB)

But that's how to while away the days of lockdowns...  and Yes the actual spec was thoroughly thought through , but the transportation to the USA was not even considered... until Now... when it might be happening... DOH!!!

the thought about selling had come to mind, but since most people are in the same boat, i would feel like an ass putting a person in the same boat i am in for the past 9 months.

the thought had crossed my mind , get a system with the AMD 5900 or 5950, plus the graphic's card, switch over the CPU's and the Graphics cards, and then sell it for the price difference of those parts against the whole cost. but I feel computers are a personal thing, literly your computer your way, and a person needing a pre-built would be better getting what they want from the start

in all honesty if I have to go down that route, then I will get an APU based system, and then give it to someone, for FREE.

Have you considered trying for a 3090?  It might give you more avenues of possible purchase.

Have you auto notified for all the cards you are interested in here on EVGA?  Yes, you may be at the bottom of the list, but as time goes on, those that signed up for everything will have received a card and will either ignore "invitation to purchase" emails or remove their auto notifies that they don't want; except for scalpers and the greedy.  The queues may eventually start moving faster.

I'm in a similar situation.  My wife's new build is sitting and waiting on a GPU from my current build.  When I eventually get a 3090 HC, my 2080Ti HC will go into her machine.

Hopefully something will break loose for you soon.

LOL, I had out of pressure thought about a 3090, knowing what i know now, I might just have bought one in 2020. Its just too much for my morality wallet lol

been on every notification list since October 2020 , and am patiently waiting.

However as a married man, you will know about the "where's my.... this is not good enough... when's my.... " earache from the wife, which makes waiting on a graphic's card worse lol

in person sitting at a Microcenter store is about the only way you'll get a card you want right now.
Other options are lucking out on a lottery system at Newegg .... or a prebuilt system.
Big companies/ prebuilt systems are the only people given priority on video cards for the past 6 months.

All queues/ sign ups  seem to be many,  many months to a year out...   chip shortages ,etc...

Oh, I understand completely!  Luckily, my wife's current system has a 1080Ti and I just drained and flushed the loop.  So she is in agreement to wait rather than putting her current GPU in the new system.  It makes it easier because we donate our old systems to a couple of charities after I convert them back to air cooling.

Same Here, normally I get a computer, then it goes to the wife , then to the family members who need it, then its given to one of the local kids. in 40 years I have never sold ANY computer parts, I have either built them all into a system, or given them away to whoever needed them.

Lol It used to be a standing Joke that I used to give away full computers to people, that all had done more Military service than their whole family,  and if you wanted to know if the computer had come from me, just look for the NATO serial codes on the parts.

As the military could (is) quite wasteful, if the system was faulty it had to be disposed of, but the boss allowed me to strip down all of the computers, then rebuild them using all the parts mixed up, put in a clean hard drive and off they went... people and families on the base, local schools, anyone who wanted them. as Technically once mixed up, they did not exist on the IT inventory any more

The habit has stuck with me now for the last 20 years outside the military
