Ducky,

Have you tried that high res texture pack release requiring heavier hardware yet? Your opinion.

Kind of got it shoved down my throat.  It downloaded it and there I was stuck with it.

Personally, I can't see much of a difference.  But I am also heavily modded and running numerous texture/appearance mods already, so that probably rendered the "texture mod" moot in my case.  For the most part, I don't see much of a performance drop.  Im running at 2560x1440 and only occasionally see a dip in FPS, which is almost a constant 58-60 FPS.   The one place I consistently and horribly drop FPS is the start up screen.

One thing the texture pack gave us was more bugs.  One of them was the brown/black face bug.   So last night Bugthesda released another update to address that issue.  It seems to have done so.

Anyway, after all that rambling.  I think you'll be okay with your 980Ti.  You didn't mention what resolution you run.   Just turn off or turn down the pointless god rays.

The resolution I am running is 2560x1440 with G-Sync enabled.

Anyone hear of this place called "The Switchboard"? It is somewhere south of Drumlin Diner but I can't find it for the life of me. Maybe I found it but didn't realize it.

The Switchboard is the former Railroad headquarters.  Yes it is Southwest of the Drumlin Diner.   It's over in the ruins surrounding the SuperDuper mart and the Corvega plant.  It's also not a marked location on your map and quest specific.

I got it from an "Oxhorn" video on YouTube. He does a lot of in depth analysis of different places in Fallout 4. The videos aren't too bad. I actually enjoy most of them but I have already plowed through most of these places. I remember seeing all of the RR employee corpses a while ago so I know I must have found it at least once. There was mention of something called a 'Death Gun' or something like that. Here is where I saw it:

Quite an interesting video. I ran across this quest but didn't remember the name of it until playing the video.

I may have to restart this game again because of the borked Brother Hood of Steel first encounter. Oh well. For me, this type of game makes it fun. Besides, I am having fun building settlements.

That was the quest where you got awarded "The Deliverer" silenced automatic pistol. You'll see it around 7:50 into the video. After slipping and injuring my back and hip on December 18 I haven't played much of any games. I subscribed to Oxhorn video channel and watch a lot of his tutorials on Fallout 4.

I like the Oxhorn videos.  He takes an approach to many of the things in the Commonwealth that causes you to look at them from a different view and rethink things.  Look up his video about Jun and Marcy Long.

Since Im super modded, the Deliverer barely ranks as "Meh".   But for those of you staying vanilla, the Deliverer is actually pretty nasty.

Yeah, he looks at a lot of things that I would have never noticed. I'm not sure if he has the official Fallout 4 technical manual or if he just sits back and analyzes these things. Interesting either way.

I think for the most part, he researches in game information and extrapolates from there.

Sim-Settlements

Yes I have.   I personally don't care for it.  Largely due to aesthetic reasons.   Beyond that, I don't see why not.  I do think it will require a bit more micro management than is currently needed.  But if the mod works as advertised should keep your settlers occupied.

That depends on what you are wanting or looking for.   And on which platform, console or PC?

On my way to work right now, but when I get home I'll post up Duk's Essential Mods list.

I'm playing on PC of course :)

I don't want anything game breaking (making it way to easy). I'm looking for some good res mods, weapon mods and anything else you think is essential.

So far I picked up HD terrain mod (forget the name), modern weapons with the armorsmith 2, and sim settlements.

Well, I'm getting up in my years and at age 61 I can now totally justify using the Console Command 'tgm' for "God Mode" and I don't lose a wink of sleep about it.

Well I have currently have 157 mods on fallout 4.  I had a lot more before the High Resolution Texture pack came out.  Any texture mods I do now are just to replace some boring vanilla textures with better ones.
Example : Ammo Retexture
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5418/?

There are plenty you can get that can make the game more exciting or challenging or silly depending on your preference.
I recently added War of the Commonwealth , which we make the sometimes boring open world crazy fun, cause the whole map is full of enemies, and every faction is fighting each other.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12395/?

You also have ENB / Sweetfx and other tweaks that you can do.

I posted a 50 minute video of a very good quest mod on youtube recently you can watch here.  Its totally silly but very fun.  I also run the game with enough mods that I can hit 11gb of Vram cap on my gtx 1080ti.

I can list all my mods if you like, I am addicted to modding this game :)

Re: Fallout 4 2017/04/18 20:59:11 (permalink)
I currently have 212 active mods.  Below are some of the mods that I personally consider to be essential to proper game play.

Sorting/Inventory Mods - I absolutey cannot stand the way the vanilla game organizes the inventory on the PIP-BOY.  These mods solve that problem
Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource
DEF-UI - If your familar with Skyrims SKY UI mod, this is the Fallout version of it
Gold Kit for Color Pipboy - Works in conjunction with DEF-UI
Updated IconLibs2 for DEF_UI
Valdacils Item Sorting

Texture/Appearance Mods - Despite the High Resolution Pack, I still find these necessary.  Also when given the option I select 4k for the textures.
Enhanced Blood Textures - Make it splatter even better.
Fallout 4 Seasons - This one is a definite must have in my load order.  Wont leave home without it.
Grasslands
Natural Green
Vivid Fallout - Another must have.

Faction Mods - Raiders, Mutants, etc.
Raider Overhaul - This one can be a bit tricky as it requires a few patches to work properly and to get all the goodies, but well worth it.
Super Mutant Redux - Same guy who did Raider Overhaul.  Make them muties even nastier

Settlement Building/Settler Management - If you like to fiddle about with your settlement or are looking for more variety take a look at these.
Better Settlers - Make your settlers not quite so stupid.  Not sure if it's compatible with Sim Settlements.
Homemaker - More stuff to build with.
Snap and Build - Even more stuff to build with.

Guns, Guns, Guns
DOOM Weapons Merged - Duplicates some weapons that are already in MF, but adds a nice M1911 and the Desert Eagle
Modern Firearms - This is the 2.41 version.  There is a 2.5Beta available that adds shotguns, but since it's still a beta it can be a bit twitchy and requires a couple patches.  (Even 2.41 needs at least the stagger patch)
Sig Sauer P220
Walther P99

Crafting/Armor
Armorsmith Extended
Craftable Ammo
Longer Power Lines

Followers/Companions
Everyones Best Friend (Dogmeat) - Fixes issues with Dogmeat that Bethesda borked or removed.

Misc
Auto Doors - Very much like my kids, the settlers do not have a clue as to how to shut a door.  This solves the problem.  If you use Homemaker, Snap & Build and/or Snappy Housekit it requires a patch to work on those doors as well.

Thats's only a fraction of what I am using, so if you are looking for something a bit more specific, let me know.

Ducky has all kinds of mods and is a great source of information. You will have to decide on your in-game travel path. Are you into building settlements? If so, he has a great mod for increasing population and settlement sizes. A must have in my opinion.

I really wish I would had paid more attention to being a setup artist/coding/rigging... Why? Because it would had been nice to inject a replacement for gameworks that works on all gpus on Fallout 4...

Heh I ran that can I run it thing for FO4 and my pc and yep my pc is definitely in need of replacement before I play newer games like FO4. I very much want to play this game so badly.

Don't spoil the game by running it on something that can't make the grade. I'm running a 770 classy and I have a choice. Reduce some settings or buy a 980 TI SC. I am serious when I say it is worth the upgrade.

that is especially true if you load up on some Nexus Mods .... that can can grind the game down that it becomes unplayable.
