Yes! A new power supply will definitely fix the stuck mission.  But... It must be larger than 1000w and it must be chrome plated with purple lights.   Otherwise, there's not much chance of it helping.

Running through the Silver Shroud missions, I was chasing down that sniveling coward Northy when I came into visual contact with what appeared to be an Eyebot brawling with a modified Protectron.   Me and MacReady sat back, had a smoke and watched the fight.  Both robots must really suck because they didn't appear to be hitting each other all that much or doing much damage.  So once we got bored, we headed on our way.  There was someone needing a bullet in their skull.

Yeah, I knew what the robots were, but I've got enough unfinished missions at the moment to add more to that list.

I'm right there with you. After I RMA'd the first time with the 1st PSU, after it just "died" while taking out the motherboard along with it, I installed the second one, and this one, after pushing the power button, a gunshot went off, which was a capacitor, so now I have to RMA again... I had bad luck last year.

Gunshot describes it well. The case lights didn't come on so hopefully nothing else was affected.

Knock on wood, I've only had one PSU die on me.  That was my old Ultra 600w (back in the days when a 600w PSU was HUGE) and it just went quietly.

I've actually got several backup PSU's kicking around should anything like that happen.   Though if I lose the power supply in the upcoming WC build I would be stuck with a downed computer as the backups wouldn't be big enough.

The only PSU I had explode on me was a misrepresented DiabloTek RPM 1050 that wasn't 1050 watts but a relabled 500 watts PSU. I powered up with a Sapphire HD5870 and a GTX-570 for a PhysX board and it blew up. They sent me another piece of garbage in a plain box with the cables all tangled. It'll power a old low powered Q6600 but that's pushing it.

Was an EVGA 1300 G2 which I need to RMA. I have a second one which is currently running this rig.

EVGA's PSUs scare me. I see to many horror stories here at the forum and bad reviews at NewEgg.

My 1300 G2 has been trouble free.

The problem is, we're only seeing/hearing about the few dozens that are bad.  You'll rarely ever see anything about the hundreds that are good.    But I think it also depends on which EVGA PSU you get, because they come from different manufactuers.   Or at least they used to.

OK, I finally broke down and deleted the local content. I'll be reinstalling in about another hour and fourty minutes when the download finally finishes. I hope this works and I don't have to do the same thing with my main PC whenever I get a replacement PSU for it.

Well, that didn't work and was a perfectly good waste of 2 hours. Maybe if I delete some of the saves I might get rid of that stuck mission. Every time I go to the Cambridge Police Station for another tech recovery mission that guy Rhys gets snotty with me for not completing his assignment. I hope he gets over it sometime soon. He never goes outside or I would pick him off with my Gauss Sniper Rifle from a distance.

If he's one of those essential characters you can't kill he might hold a grudge even after I load a previous save. Those NPCs can be devious like that or so I've been told.

What is the name of the quest you are stuck on? You can search the quest ID in the command console and set the stage to a higher value (almost always in factors of 10 but sometimes 5) I have done this on 2 other Bethesda games to fix broken quest progression.

CPU - i7 950 @ 4.2GHz 1.375v
MB - MSI Big Bang X-Power X58

It's one of those 'Cleansing the Commonwealth' missions where I have to clear an area. This one is Breakheart Banks. I went there again yesterday and killed the only remaining living thing, a Mutant Hound, and the Map says (Cleared) under Breakheart Banks but I can't turn it in to get another one. It is still in my PipBoys data saying 'Clear Breakheart Banks' but doesn't say 'Return to Scribe Rhys' like it shoud.

Zuhl... it's a sign from the Fallout god that he wants you to start over, because he feels that your vault dweller is not fit for the future of "Crawling out through the fallout".

I could always grab Liberty Prime and blast The Institute but that would be the end of it. I'd rather side with the Minutemen and the Railroad and sneak in there myself and blow the place to smithereens.

Did that same thing. The spokesperson on Diamon City radio is hilarious when he makes the announcement about that.

I went full speed with the minutemen basically. Saw "Father", interrupted his speech and shot him in the head. That was it. Left my kid behind, went to the roof top, and blew it up. Case closed. I can't recall right now who the tech guy is at Sanctuary who helps me open the portal to get to the facility, but honestly, when he questioned my actions about leaving my kid behind, I wanted to leave him behind also.

Another note, BOS has an attitude problem, and every time I go to them they rub in the fact I chose the minutemen over them. Whenever they do that, I just want to shoot them in the face. They're not Boss, I'm the boss.

BOS are the only ones giving me anything to do. I didn't choose them they chose me. I almost feel like I've been drafted similar to the Viet Nam era policy. Preston just wants to have some weird 'little talk' with me but that option to 'Romance' is scaring me. I feel like dumping Piper the next time I see Deacon but I need to get my Power Armor back from her first. Maybe with Deacon I can get some Railroad work again.

Did you keep the facility intact? That might be the reason, because the minutemen do not like them. The railroad as well, do not like them.

BOS is more of the "mercenaries", and if someone has the money, and want them to do something, they'll do it with no questions asked. So, I could see the institute paying BOS under the table to let them be.

I built my portal on Spectacle Island with Tinker Tom from the Railroad. I was an isolated unpopulated area and I didn't want to put any of my settlements in any danger. I guess it's time to blow something up. After I shoot 'Father' I'll need to get someone to show me how to unlock the sewer pipe into the Institute basement so I can place the explosives. I think Deacon or Desdemona can do this for me. I'll make a save in case I change my mind. LOL

Hmmm... I am right near the end but my understanding of what was happening is a little different with the story. My interest is peaked.... I need to see what's really going on at the institute. I made a save right when I need to make a choice of what group to help me build the tele-porter so I can see all the different ways this plays out.

It's still there. I am supposed to inspect my quarters there and supposedly a Courser meets me but he never shows up. Maybe I'll just let 'Father' have it with my Alien Blaster and get it over with.

Not sure why the courser is not showing up, but with the institute intact and you not blowing it up might be why the minutemen and the underground railroad want nothing to do with you. I'm surprised that Preston even allows you to flurt with him...

The railroad hates the institute, and the minutemen hate them just as much, but the minutemen are not doing it in secrecy. It makes total sense why the BOS would be the only ones giving you missions. For me, it makes sense now why the BOS are mad at me for not taking them, and the minutemen praise me for it. I don't hear much from the underground railroad, though, but I know they're happy as can be about it.

I did a massive Synth rescue mission for the Railroad where I had to kill all of the Synth guards in the basement to let the Synths seeking help escaping could dig a tunnel out of there. I think that was the last RR mission I got. There was another mission with a Railroad insider in the Institute that disappeared. IDK what happened with that mission to rescue 13 Synths.

All the main quests seem to make you a huge a-hole. "Kill hundreds, if not, thousands of people (and "people") to free about 30." Something is just off here...
