Ok so Bethesda and Nvidia apparently stopped caring about this game so I was wondering if it were possible to remove all the patches I have. I heard that this game worked fine with SLI and HDR before patch 1.10. I'm not sure if there was another patch before that one so can somebody help me out here?

Not just HDR flickering anymore but I believe there are now stuttering issues with newer nvidia drivers.

fixed it. Uninstalled fallout 3 and removed all patches. disabled windows live to keep from patching. SLI seems to be working fine now. Hopefully I won't run into too many bugs that will keep me from advancing foward.

Who would like to bet that New Vegas will have the same SLI flicker. =p
So much work to do... someone has to do it.

Just change the lighting to bloom lighting. That fixed all of my issues. Yeah, it doesn't look as good, but runs WAY better.

EmeraldEclipse Just change the lighting to bloom lighting. That fixed all of my issues. Yeah, it doesn't look as good, but runs WAY better. I tried that and bloom lighting is just not pretty for me. Also, one issue is that the Quantum Colas do not glow in bloom I think I read. I just got used to the flicker, but the game is not that taxing. I would bet most could run it fine without SLI. It ran fine on just one 280 for me. I have two 480s coming today, I am curious to see if the flicker will still be there. I assume it would, but just curious if anything changes. Of course, one 480 will more than run the game. To the OP, some of the patches fix issues which hinder quest progress. There are workarounds though. One of the patches fixes an issue with NPC spawning in spots and dying. But there are console commands to bring them back to life. I personally think it is better with the patches and either live with the flicker or disable SLI.

That's easy for you to say considering that the game will do fine with a single 280. I, on the other hand, have a GTS 250 which doesn't cut it on max settings 1080p.

Sorry, was not trying to rub it in or anything. I do agree it is a frustration to have to make such choices (between SLI with bloom or HDR without SLI). In your case, removing the patches might be best. Or maybe try backing down the draw distance some. The differences between High and Max/Ultra is not huge in my opinion. If you do remove the patches, you might check out this Fallout 3 Wikia Portal: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout_3 It has lots of good info about bugs and patches and how to work around the bugs. This site is where I learned how to regenerate dead NPCs before the patch for that issue came out for example. I hope this helps. Fallout 3 is my all-time favorite game and I do wish they would fix the issue.

I love fallout 3, but it was one game I really regret buying on the PC. I had Fallout 3 right after it came out on my PS3, and never and the first issue. Then I bought the GOTY edition on my PC. I could not play for more than ~30 minutes with out it locking my machine up. I feel your frustration Manny.
