Just curious to get a consensus on what general temps look like. On top of that, how are the acoustics? What kind of case are you using?

Torn between the 3090 FTW3 Ultra and the Strix.

    Have the nzxt 710I case.

    Temps in games are 68C-72C
    Idle is 40C-45C

Fan on stock profile is silent. It gets up into the 70% range under load and I hear nothing. Such a nice change from my 1080 which was like a jet engine FFS.

I'd go EVGA 100%, not even a question.

FTW3 Owner. Idle is 33C, which is about 10C over ambient. 100% GPU usage I have never passed 72C sustained. If I throw the fans at 100% I never break 68.

A giant Enermax Fulmo GT case with two 180mm side fans blowing on it, ambient temps are cool now since it got down to 19F last night. Guessing it's around 60F in the room.

Idle 25C, gaming/folding at 67 to 72C (72C when the room is a lot warmer) with auto fans on the stock OC VBIOS (33% minimum fans with a more agressive fan profile) - they're barely noticeable over my quiet case fans, which is great because my case fans are barely noticeable as is.

This is overclocked with the GPU core running around 1950 to 2000MHz with the VRAM at +600.

Appreciate the responses guys - do any of find the card gets loud or experiences any sort of coil whine when in-game under load? I have a STRIX 3080 right now as a placeholder card which my friend is getting given to him for MSRP when my 3090 FTW3 comes in but I'm still skeptical on the thermals.. I just don't want a jet engine going off on my ears basically lol. The temps seem manageable, especially in larger style cases which is what I have. I was thinking about placing 2 / 140mm or 120mm fans on the bottom of my case to pull air into the card to help with thermals too. Looks like I can expect anywhere between 65-75 degrees.. ideally want to try and stay away from the mid to high 70s though.

At one point I thought I started to get some coil whine with certain folding work units, but it turns out the center fan on my CPU's 360 AiO is going out. A few taps and it stopped. Full disclosure: I've got an active PFC compatible 1320W UPS that cleans up my already very steady/clean power to my EVGA 1600W T2. I've not had any coil whine since I started using this UPS, but I did have coil whine with a square wave (NOT active PFC compatible) UPS and two 780 Ti Classifieds - and after some troubleshooting and research it landed me where I am now.

Like I said before, the fans on auto even under sustained load are noticeable, but not loud or distracting (at least for my PC case - I've heard others with problems, but I consider their case airflow to be, well, bad). When gaming there's no way I'll notice them over ambient game noise - but full disclosure, I've got a killer 5.2.2 sound system.

At the beginning, I just set the fan speed to a fixed 70%, which is even more quiet than auto. However, the ~75% fan speed that they get to on auto isn't bad either.

Coil Whine: So far the only reported instances of whine have actually been from the PSU based on my experience + other forum posts. I think there has been only 1 actual post about whine from the card. However, they started the RMA before actually posting, so no idea what they were wanting from the forums? I think it was their PSU since they said they had a 850Watt from a few years ago.

Noise: At 100% its noticeable obviously. On auto setting I barely hear it from 3-4 feet away through my case. My 6x noctua are louder than the thing. I have them set to scale based off GPU temp.

Temp: As long as your case is properly vented, I doubt you will ever see mid 70's. If you have a fan at the bottom of the case blowing into the fans of the card, even more reason to never break 72. If anything, just get the 3090 then buy the hybrid kit when it comes out to make it liquid.

I've got mine set to the OC VBIOS fan profile and most of the time I can't even hear it. Up to 1700rpm It barely overpowers my case/AIO fans.

My idle is at around 34-35C and gaming usually tops around 63-66C at stock. Overclocked I have gone up to 70-72C.

That's what I figured as well just based off what I was reading and gauging from other posts. Good to know the fans are solid though, reassuring absolutely. Case is solid as well, well vented, the fan I'm looking to add the bottom is more precautionary than anything but feel like it'll be a good idea just for such a powerful card. No harm in adding a 140mm to help with that. The Strix 3080 I'm running right now gets right around the 68C mark under full load.

Overclocked with +90 on the core and +750 on memory I'm at 75c with aggressive fan profile. I still never hear it. That's with H500M case with side panel off at about 21c room temp.

Current ambient is around room temperature, and I'm also messing with different fan configs in my case at the moment, but, before my temps were:

Idle: 24-29C, Load: 58-65C depending on OC & the game/benchmark being ran.

Right this very moment I'm idling at 27C but this fan config doesn't have any particularly-directed airflow at the GPU except from the front of the case.

you guys need to invest in cases with front mount layouts and a decent riser. makes a big difference in temps.

heres an idea.  this is before i set it all up

I need to do more testing but i havent seen the type of load temps you guys mention here

Been an EVGA owner since 980 ti. Seems there cooling design even with ICX always runs a little hotter. 3090 Asus tuf i have seen running as low as 52-53C at 1950 Mhz playing different games maxed out at 4k with Ray tracing. Wondering if their triple slot cooler is just that much better?

I've wondered about this too, but my 980 Ti has been running for over 4 years at low to mid 80C, so I don't expect it to be a problem with these typically running low to mid 70s.

I wanted to point out gamers nexus temps here in port royal. He has a video and is using only the optimus water blocks. He reported 8c over ambient. Which means he ran the bench at 16c (60 F). as you can see 3d mark is reporting 24c average temp. This is with a fully shunt modded board which means he could be anywhere from 600-800w! and look how easily its managing temps

To get 8 over ambient is unbelievable and would make this the best water block ever made

I'm at 53C at idle, closed Fractal Design Define R6 case.  Terrible airflow.  Just saw a max temp of 83C before Windows threw a LiveKernalEvent 141 hardware error, crashed GTA 5 and rebooted to a black screen with max fans.

Switch is in the OC setting - guess I'll have to pay attention, I thought I had the fans set to auto...

Seasonic Prime 1300W PSU, no overclock on the card.

Mine were Idling at 62C and load was 85C +. Does look like mine just didn't have any thermal paste.

    That's kind of concerning ^

Did you take the cooler off and have a look to know that?

So do the clocks thermal throttle even below 80C? Saw somewhere that they start throttling to some degree when the temps are above 60C.

With fans at 100% temps are at 57c in game. idle is 30c ambient is 67F. my overclock is +115 core and +248 mem In black ops cold war my clock is usually at 2115. Lastly I would like to say one of my gpu fans seems to be squeaky between 85% and 95%. If I go less than 85 or greater than 95 the noise goes away...
