I have been using the FTW3 3090 since October and I never had a black screen crash until today.
When I tried the Game "Mafia - Definitive Edition" today, the fans on my GPU would go to 100% and than the screen goes to black (sound kept playing). This only happened with this particular game, all other games worked fine.

The black screen crashes happened 4 times in a row. Every time after about 10 minutes in game.

I was getting pretty concerned since I read from some people with dead 3090's that black screens were the first issue they saw before their card eventually died.

After the frequent crashes, I set my card back to the default clock speeds even though I never had an issue with my overclock since I set it up back in October.

Long story short, once the MEM is set to default speed, the crashes went away. Overclocking the core does not cause any crashing for me, it's only the MEM OC that resulted in repeated crashes in this particular game.

Just wanted to let people know in case somebody else is also experiencing black screens in certain games...

I had the same issue with my RTX3090 FTW3 Ultra. If I overclock memory at all, it randomly black screens in Elite Dangerous. No Mem overclock = No problem.

0 Mem overclock. Even 200 would cause black screen in Elite Dangerous.  Haven't noticed any issues ion other games.

Never been a fan of memory overclocks for everyday use. This just further confirms that feeling.

Overclocking can cause instability, and if you have instability to first step you should do is remove the overclock?  No way...

    ASRock Z77 • Intel Core i7 3770K • EVGA GTX 1080 • Samsung 850 Pro • Seasonic PRIME 600W Titanium
    My EVGA Score: 1546 • Zero Associates Points • I don't shill

I never had a card in the past that was stable in all but one particular game.
That's why I posted this thread so others who may run into the same issue can check if the MEM OC might be the issue even though the OC might have been stable for months and in tons of other games.

Once I'm finished with this game I will set the card back to my previous OC clock since other games have been running fine.
