Is 2.2Ghz out of the box or maximum overclock ? Is classified runing on custom bios ? What fps diffence can we expect compare to 2Ghz ? Lol to many question i guess he have to wait and see but it's interesting to see that finaly we have something able to go over 2.1Ghz

Well, there are already 2.2GHz watercooled FE cards, but they are rare! I really hope that 2.2GHz sth that this cards can easily achieve!

That would be 2.2GHz out of the box if Jacob said it. No way he would give a potential overclock result as it different on every card. Yes custom bios and probably has the 1.25v limit removed. The difference between 2 and 2.2 won't be much it is more just a number on a screen.

I believe Gamer's Nexus said that at 2164 vs 2050 there was a 2-3% difference in FPS... so not much.

The issue is that the 1080/1070 OC'd give only +~11% over stock (FPS NOT clocks). Add 2% for a golden card. Then add another 2-3% for a higher Classified overclock at ~2200Mhz. At best that is still less than the 980 Ti's (and that is reference mind you) 20% increase (again FPS) over stock. Factor in a nice 980 Ti Classified at 1550/8100Mhz and that increases to over 25%. The 1080 is undeniably an impressive, fast card... but at this stage it looks to be a lousy overclocker.

Now... there are a couple caveats. We don't know if the 1080 Classy has higher memory clocks. Nor do we know if, just like with the 980 Ti Classy, high OCs (like 1550) can be expected on the majority of cards. We also may see better gains at specific resolutions vs an average (CPU bottlenecks bring this down).

IMO the writing was on the wall when early LN2 results showed only 2500Mhz max. IF 2200-2300Mhz is the limit for air water and LN2 is 2500-2600Mhz... that is only a ~15% improvement. If you look at the 980 Ti K|NGP|N, Vince got it to 1908. That is a roughly a 30% increase over average air/water clocks (1450). In other words... don't expect much from custom 1080s.

EDIT: I stand corrected on 1080 LN2 capability. This puts it at +~28%. Statements about the 1080 on air/water still stands though.

People with a 980 Ti... for God's sake please wait for the 1080 Ti.

Yeah Pascal overclock over out of the box clocks is for sure bad compare to Maxwell but when you think about it as you said 1.9Ghz was the record for Maxwell under LN2 and now we can do over 2Ghz on air .That's amazing . It's sad that on Pascal fps doesn't scale well with clocks over 2Ghz but when you know that you can achieve a solid 2Ghz prety much on every card i'm ok with this . I still believe that Vince will be able to hit 2.7 or 2.8Ghz if not with 1080 then 1080ti .

Watercooled cards can achieve that, but only a few. GPU temperature has to be below 40°C (or 50°C) to avoid first minial throttle:

Kinda curious now if the FTW design will be able to fall somewhere in the middle ..... because i am still on the fence on if i should cancel my pre order if it OCs the same as a SC version.

    Standard for K|ngp|n.

As for the Classified 2.2, be aware that it is 100% susceptible to the silicone lottery and 95% of cards will not be in the same category. Everyone should remain calm, and eventually they will see the truth.

Poor folks had their buzz killed, hard!

Not that it wasn't expected. The Classified cards aren't usually that much higher clocked than a FTW out of the box.

Is there any indication (don't need to hear clocks) that the extra bios/phases etc on the FTW will give it more OC headroom than what we have seen from FE/reference board cards? or is this extra room just for the classified?
I would be a little sad if the extra money on the FTW is just for the pretty RGB lighting.
A lot of people are already canceling their pre order on the FTW because they think this is the case.

Naturally I would go on this model...

But I think Hybrid will be better choice this time.
If Classified work on 2000-2050MHz Boost that would be excellent card.

Personally I would be fine with my card maxing out at 2.1GHz if the best versions only get up to 2.2GHz. It won't be a noticeable performance difference. 2.8GHz was a tempting fantasy for the few seconds that it existed.
