Yes, the desk is really that short, because Im short legged!  The desk isnt finished, but wont take much more to fin. I dont have a shop to work in, so, I had to make do.  With my fibromyalgia getting worse, I needed something now, and at the right proper measurements  to my needs.

Planning on a partial back, out of some 1/4 or 1/2 inch plywood to tie the legs & top together ?
 
It is amazing what you can do with just a circular saw & a router ... nice (faster) to have some big tools (table & radial arm saws) but it is not needed.  I've made cabinets with just hand tools
 
If needed, add a couple of inches between desk & side wall.  Also you could add some case fans if heat becomes an issue & wire them through a thermostat if you want to get fancy

What sort of monitor stand is that? Does it go through the desk top, or a clamp, or just leaning up against the wall? If you have a link for it, would be appreciated - might solve a few problems we have at home with some monitor stands as our desks are very narrow in depth due to necessity - home office space is a little tight with 2 desks. Looks like you have some nice ideas Knight. The finished product will be nice. I am wondering what the cut-out is for in one of the drawings? {probably self explanatory, but I'm slooww}  Be sure to add some corner braces at the minimum.
