I’ve read every post on this topic and I think EVGA has done an admirable job in trying to get these graphics cards into the hands of consumers who are actually going to use them. The only thing about the system that concerns me is that someone could potentially buy one of each sku if they happened to sign up for notifications for all the different cards. There should be some way to limit purchases to one 30 series card per account/email. I realize that MOST of the folks on here are just looking to get one card for their own use, but given the opportunity to get more than one without having to do anything but respond to an email invite could be a bit too tempting for some. I would have no problem with the queue system automatically canceling all my other notifications for 30 series cards on my account once I receive an invitation and place my order. This would also release those cards immediately for others instead of having an eight hour wait before they are released. Personally, once I get the card I want, I’m going to ignore any future notifications to purchase (I am currently signed up for three different sku’s, all on the first two days after release). I’m just not so confident that others won’t be tempted to get multiple cards (potentially for resale) if the opportunity to get more than one just dropped in their laps. Just throwing in my two cents worth...

And under the current pandemic environment, how many folks do you think would be able to afford it and even want to do it if they could? 5%? 20%? 50%?

Think it through...
  1. Sales are sales. Think of how many times a "Widget" has been released and resold for twice the retail value. Nearly every hot product, like ever.
  2. Those that would do this, need $8200 for the 3090's and $3825 for the 3080's. So roughly $12,025 in retail cost (Not overinflated value). The "Overinflated" value of those diminish pretty fast when the next variants are announced. Notice I said announce, not released. So it would be a pretty big gamble.
  3. And even if they purchased them and then turned around and sold them. Because they are EVGA purchased GPU's, the warranty remains.
  4. Folks deeper into the calendar may be able to buy one of these GPU's at the retail price from an honest person, sooner than waiting for their email to arrive. And so on.

I know "Many" folks have not taken the offer to purchase the 3080FTW3 Ultras when offered. And EVGA just rolls those into the next days batch.

And BTW, I agree with how this can be improved in the future. But anyone can be a Monday Morning Naysayer. But EVGA, under the gun, in the middle of a massive launch and bot attack. Came up with a darn good solution for the "Majority".

Every sword can have double edge. Would we all like to go back to the way it was before this new program?

I totally agree with you. Like I said, I am completely impressed with the job EVGA has done in setting up this queue system. It gets the cards into the hands of gamers and content creators that will actually use them.

I was just suggesting that I wouldn’t have a problem with EVGA canceling any other 30 series notifications I might have once I get notified for the card I want and order it. This would free up cards just a bit more quickly for others.

I suppose that there is a limited pool of people with enough resources to purchase multiple 3090 series cards, but it seems like it wouldn’t be too difficult to flip a 3090 for a smaller premium that what the scalpers are asking, so the cash outlay would only be short term. Still, if others are passing on 3080 FTW cards, I might be reading the market demand wrong.

I definitely don’t want to go back to where we were before the queue system was put in place. This system has really made this whole 30 series launch so much better.

Thanks for your insights.

I agree. Although this method wouldn't work as well for the 4000 series launch (because.. now bots will just sign up for auto-notify; this worked because the element of surprise was on EVGA's side), I think this is a fantastic move by the company, and really showed effort by the entire team to come up with this angle and change while under constant barrage of pissed off fans and customers from every form of social media and forum. EVGA had some true colors shine this week, and is setting a good example of the kind of energy that companies should have for their loyal customer base, because that harkens to the old days of how honest business is run, and not just an invoice of -$ and +$. I was always taught that if your company has to eat a dollar to make a customer happy, it will benefit everybody in the long run because that person will tell 3-4 of his friends and family how well he was treated and send people to do business with you. Forgive the slightly off topic rant turn here, but it has a relevant point. I have been dealing with a personal nightmare the last few years with serious grief and loss of my wife physically from this world, and about 8 months after what I call "the tragedy", I needed some costly repairs on my car (fuel pump being the biggest one, which is not easy access on this car... you have to drop the fuel tank and exhaust to get to it) with a pending vacation with an incredibly close friend who has been there for me and is there for me in all of this grief and darkness. The privately owned mechanic shop that I took the car to ended up not finishing the job on time, and his shop closes at 5 PM (and this was on a Friday, I was picking her up at the airport on Saturday.) He called me to tell me he didn't finish, but that he was going to stay at his shop all night until it was done. He told me he already called his family to let them know he would be late, and he knew how important this vacation was and how important seeing my friend was in my grief, and he felt so awful about the nightmare I was going through with what happened to my wife and I, so he wasn't going to let me down. Instead of 5PM, he finished around midnight or 1AM, and called me to tell me it was done. I tipped him $50 over what I owed him for the job, gave him a hug, and now I go to him for nearly every mechanic repair and recommend everyone I possibly can to him. I wasn't just a $ to him, he wanted to make sure my car was running and safe as I try to gather myself find light in this life after the horrible tragedy that I faced, and that really stuck with me what he did. I think if more people were like that, and more business was run like that, this world would be a better place. Look out for each other.

Anyways, thank you for reading that was pretty painful to type and talk about, but I think it's important to say. Kudos to EVGA for completely standing out above the pack trying with trying to help their customers, even for something as "non-essential" (for most people) as a video graphics card.

Dang. I’ll admit it, I’ve never purchased any EVGA products before, but this is one hell of a way to demonstrate goodwill to your future customers. Looking at what EVGA sells other than gpu as I type.

The only problem with following this thread is that whenever there is an update, I get an alert for new email that has the word "Notification" in it - my heart skips a beat because I keep thinking this is me getting the Notification to buy the card. Not the Notification of more discussion about the Notification.

Not only goodwill to future customers, but current ones as well. I own several EVGA graphics cards and recently purchased one of their power supplies for my new build. Now just waiting for my 30 series graphics card and I’ll be good to go!

Even as a fairly long term EVGA customer, I am so impressed with what they have done for their customers with the queue system that I’ll be looking to EVGA first for my future PC builds. Definitely a customer for life now!

People still have credit cards, paypal credit, etc. You act like someone would be taking some huge risk in buying a card for the sake of reselling right now. 3080's are going for $1,400-$1,600 all day. Listings are selling in minutes to a couple hours.
Not to mention, someone doesn't have to cough up the money for all the cards at once. The emails won't all come at once and gives PLENTY of time to sell one or two at a time.
Can't believe how naive some of you are about this.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A MAX OF 1 CARD ALLOWED TO BE BOUGHT PER ACCOUNT UTILIZING THIS QUEUE SYSTEM! Period. If people want more/others, EVGA needs to allocate a percentage of inventory to the website for regular sales and they can try to buy them that way, not through the queue system.
The bottom line is you can't talk about fair this and fair that while thinking the ability to buy all 5 SKU's before others will ever be able to buy 1 is fair.
If the guy in front of you at Micro Center was allowed to buy 1 of every 3080 in the store, while you don't even get to buy 1 you'd be ok with that? No - you wouldn't. Don't even lie and try to say otherwise.

Even with the hassle of having to have a card sent via my sister-in-law in Sacramento to Australia its cheaper than buying locally (AU$100) and I can have stepup  (or my sister in law can)

I agree with you 100%. When Jacob posted this thread there was someone already looking to exploit the system asking if they could get one of each of the models. 1 Card per household for now would be my vote. I also like how people are flagging your post as spam..... pathetic.

I hope not. That’s not really fair for the rest of us that are waiting for FTW3, and submitted a notification request early.

There will be shipments of XC3s next week according to Jacob.

The entire queue system is literally not fair.
The only people happy about it are people among the first to sign up on the 17th.
Everyone else is just stuck waiting until December - January for our purchase emails.
The queue system should have only began AFTER Jacob made the announcement about it. Ridiculous to go all the way back weeks prior to that when no one had the slightest clue that it would be your place in line for a card. Lots of people didn't/don't bother with auto notify because it either fails to send at all or sends way too slow.

Absolutely not, and quite frankly you're the reason why (no offense). Two weeks ago you were complaining that Elite members had their own sales. So what did you do? You took your week old account and spammed your way to the post limit. I'm sure you'd be perfectly fine with "Elite" only cards now, right? Do you feel like an Elite member of the community? (again, no offense and nobody blames you)

Point being: announcing how they were going to distribute would be the absolute worst thing they could do. At least with this methodology they guarantee it could not be taken advantage of. And if you ask me, it's a nice little nod to those of us who have been here a long time since we've been  to get our drops.

I signed up for notify on the FTW3 Ultra 9/19 evening and I super happy about the queue.

I am very happy about it as well and I signed up on the 29th September

Signed up on Oct 5th. I don't generally sign up for auto-notify anyway because by the time I get notified for hot items they're already sold out.

I gotta say, I've never had to put in so much effort to give someone $2000 before.

I've tried F5ing everything since the 17th, to no avail (sooooo frustrating). Let me say, if I get an email this week to purchase an EVGA XC3 that I signed up an auto notify on 9-16 4:20pm I PROMISE, you will have made a customer for life EVGA!

What are the chances to get an order before November 19th if I pressed the Notify Me button on Oct 1st? Is it foolish to think I will get one? Or should I go ahead and buy something else?

Well, it's been 3 days, only one SKU is being sent out and we haven't even made it halfway through an hour signup range. Honestly? You'll know in a week or two for sure, because that's when cards are supposed to "ramp up."

If we're still on Sept 17th after next week, start praying. What will really decide things is how fast the queue goes along when EVGA starts selling more than just one card, as well as the non ultra variants.

And whether they were right about stock improving late October, I guess.

In short, it's too soon and too little data atm. We'll have a much better picture next Friday.

You and I are in the same boat, I did the Auto Notify on the 1st as well for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra.

5%? 20%? 50%?

Period. If people want more/others, EVGA needs to allocate a percentage of inventory to the website for regular sales and they can try to buy them that way, bot through the queue system.

I agree with you 100%. When Jacob posted this thread there was someone already looking to exploit the system asking if they could get one of each of the models. 1 Card per household for now would be my vote. I also like how people are flagging your post as spam..... pathetic.

Yeah I was a little shocked at the “1 of each card” not one per queued person and household

Ridiculous to go all the way back weeks prior to that when no one had the slightest clue that it would be your place in line for a card.Lots of people didn't/don't bother with auto notify because it either fails to send at all or sends way too slow.

Maybe you're ok with getting your email in December.
I'm not.
It's really pathetic that availability of these cards is so abysmal that people are happy to be forcefully stuck in a waiting queue to get an opportunity to buy a card months down the road. That or try to get one of the 10 cards NewEgg drops every other day.

You know, you have a very good opinion. But your way of going about it is not winning much support. It is coming off as very "I want my way and any feedback that does not support my position I will yell louder until I get what I want". Not to mention you post the same thing over and over and over.

Your desire for one per household has been heard.

EVGA has done this in the past as well. That did not go well.

Please keep in mind, those on these forums commenting, are only a portion of EVGA's clients. There is a much larger community not coming to these forums. I mean, think about it. Are 500,000 folks hitting the forums each day? No.

In fact, I will tell you this. Back in 2013 I needed six GPU's for my business. I was only able to get one. So I had to go around to multiple companies to get them. VS. one. No one stopped me from getting one from Newegg, BestBuy, Amazon and so on. I was able to get one at each place and circumvent your "One per household" idea. I can still do all that you claim supports your "One per household" idea.

Of course, that also means they have to be in stock and not a part of a "Pandemic" =]

No solution is perfect.

That's the thing - you can't get 6 cards right now. You can hardly get 1. That's the entire point. Demand is huge, supply is almost nothing - yet we're forced into a queue that will allow some people to buy multiple cards before others can buy 1.

Not true. I can. So can you. How do you think others already have SLI 3090's? Where there is a will, there is a way...

Question: Anyone know if the cards we bought during this queue system are coming with the promo game codes for Watch Dogs: Legion?
