In high school I worked as a lifeguard at a water park. Most slides (other than the straight drop slide or lazy river-style ride) had an operator at the top and a lifeguard at the bottom (the lifeguard’s role was usually to scream “stand up” when folks hit the splash pool and momentarily forget about their legs; seriously, that was 90% of the job). Several of the slides at the water park had multiple fast drop portions followed by some slower, flatter areas often in a blind spot not visible to the operator at the top of the slide who determines when to send the next slider. The operator, who was evaluated by management on how fast the waiting line would move, would often send the next rider(s) before the prior rider(s) had cleared the slide, let alone splashed down in the pool at the terminus of the ride (there is a metaphor here for folks thinking about misaligned incentives and NVIDIA’s behavior over the last year…).
 
The 3897-KL queue’s ride feels like it has finally cleared the introductory portion of the slide and is dropping quickly through the steepest drop…but that slow spot in the blind corner is just ahead…and the queue’s progression will quickly come to a harsh and unavoidable crawl. That is all by way of saying, please enjoy the fast progression of the 3897-KL while we can…when that queue hits the afternoon of October 5 (the day the queue structure was announced), we are going to be counting its progression in seconds...definitely not minutes, let alone days. It is a certainty that the 3897 queue will not be beyond October 6, 2020 in its timeline by the time we reach October 6, 2021.... 
 
Two final reminders about water parks…stay away from the kiddie pool area…that water…it isn’t clean.  And, when your UPS driver arrives with your EVGA package, please remember to stand up. 
 
Tomorrow is Friday…usually a relatively slow day here on the queues...let’s hope tomorrow is an anomaly.

I've been using the 3080 Ti for a few days now and have had some behaviour in a few games where framerate has shot up to about 1000 and the card starts buzzing. I shut it down immediately and just set a global framerate limit. Not worth the hassle.

How do you set a global framerate limit?

Nvidia control Panel > manage 3D settings > Global Settings > Maximum framerate. You can also set it by application. To clarify, i meant it's not worth the hassle of having to RMA a dead card. I don't really need games to run higher than the refresh rate of the screen anyhow.

I'm guessing I shouldn't be actively keeping tabs on the queue then. I signed up for the 3897 within a couple weeks of everyone else, but since it was on 10/12, I imagine it probably won't reach that point in 2021.

Unfortunately, I think it highly unlikely that your will secure a 3897-KL for a 10/12 registration date in calendar year 2021.  I am sorry I don't have better news.

On my 3070 I had a older game  that hit 500 plus and heat shot towards 95.
It did not look to be stopping.
So I capped it at 120.
Heat stopped at 52 then.


 

I am exactly 1 minute away on the 3953 and I'm not sure what to do. I really want the 3080ti FTW3 to use until my kingpin rolls around but I'm 3.5 mins out on that one. My brother has agreed to buy a 3080ti off of me once the kingpin pops. I don't currently have any builds inline for anyone wanting a 3080ti. Guess I'm gonna ask some of the 3080 holdovers on the list if they want to pay the extra for it and finally get a PC.

Read an article about how manufactures have abandoned the economic cards becuase they can just make more money on the premium. There is barely any movement on 3060-ti and 3060, im also on queue for a 1660 super but I doubt I'll be able to get entry-level card. Looks like for now its go-big-or-go-home with graphics cards.

 
A local supplier near me says the mid-high end cards are about to dry up and all we are going to see are 3060's, 3060 ti's, 3090's. That's what MSI and Asus told him anyway.
 

That sounds promising. I assume there are more people willing to pay $300-$400 than those who pay $800+.

Any official updates on 3070ti ftw3? Que haven't moved for almost 3 weeks now.
